With some time on my hands I have picked up enough momentum to start posting a proper blog on Dakka in order to commemorate the creation and completion of my armies! I've been playing Eldar since late second edition, but long story short I haven't been motivated enough to paint until a year ago, which is the reason for my new P&M Blog! I've collected a sizable force of Eldar and more recently I accumulated a huge amount of orks after straying from the straight and narrow of my Eldar. With a lot of models I'll be giving a lot of updates with a lot of different and sometimes unrelated models!
Since I've been collecting for such a long time I've amassed enough models to make at least 2 armies with both my Eldar and my Orks. I'll be painting both armies with two separate paint schemes each. That way I can keep my interest with their fluff and paint scheme without going insane! I tend to flip flop when it comes to what Clan/Craftworld my army is going to represent, so I hope painting several of them at a time will alleviate that issue and give me enough time to muscle through all the models!
Seer Council
My first project was my seer council and its almost completed. I haven't done the witch blades, some of the gem details, and a few other details I couldn't list off the top of my head.
This is a really early image of my Farseer, he's still not finished but this is a taste of his progression.
This was my original idea for my Autarch and I ended up deciding against the armor color since it didn't really come out that great. From this picture you can actually see a lot of the test painting I was doing on the warlocks in their early stages.
I went with two differentiations of warlocks because I thought it would be too bland if they were all exactly the same, but one of my friends pointed out to me that they looked a lot like alaitoc and I had to give myself a nice face palm for that one, so I washed em once or twice with purple to make 'em a little less like Alaitoc wannabes. It hasn't really made em look less like Alaitoc, but it made me feel happier.
This last image is the up to date picture and I'm actually really proud on how they turned out! Theres a few spots that need fixing up, but as a whole they came out similarly to how I wanted them. Hope you guys enjoy!
I've also started my second conversion for another Farseer. It's nothing too complex, but I had an extra farseer lying around and I wanted to do something unique. I wanted him to have a heroic pose like a lot of the other Farseers, but I'm a hater when it comes to the double finger salute some of the other farseer models pull off. So, I decided to botch up a Dire avenger hand and the singing spear with Maugan Ra's scythe to make this. I thought it came out pretty well, but the scythe isn't pinned so It's still really fragile.
Dire Avengers
I just finished this squad last week and I really enjoyed working on it. This was actually one of the first things I primed for my eldar army and as such the primer went on a little thick. There's a few models in there that have been marred by the spray and all their details got washed out. One of them was so bad that I had to go back and take a razor blade to his head and just painted in the details instead. Almost all of their flat surfacing turned bubbly from the spray and I had to go in and fix a lot of it with several layers of unwanted paint.
You can see in this image how the spray bubbled up on the cloth and even took some of the fine detail away from a lot of the models surfaces. It was a lot to work with, but I think the almost finished product came out better...
I'm still not done with him, because I still don't have anything to seal him with so I keep rubbing him wrong and the paint just seems to fall off. I'm still not very articulate when it comes to lining the figure and it's making my models still look very rough around the edges, but I'm getting better as I go.
This is the full squad as it looks right now. I think they came out looking great after having a lot of issues with the spray paint and then learning a lot about outlining the figures. On that note, after experimenting with the models I moved on to the guns and I ended up outlining the guns and they were a great improvement over the lining on their main bodies!
Storm Guardians
Here's a pic of my models I just primed! It's a lot of models I can't wait to get started on.
That's the picture of the basic paint scheme I'm using on the storm guardians, but I took this picture before I touched up the model so it looks a lot better now and a lot less cartoony. Added another layer of blue, washed the blue, and retouched the yellow. I'll post a pic when I get done with all of them, or at least get to a point where they look nice enough to photograph them.
