I just got an email from The WarStore and saw they have the Mantic range. With the recent GW price increase I'd be lying if I said I wasn't tempted. Anyone else thinking about picking up Kings of War?

Im really cutting back on GW (sold ork army and daemons) and I'm picking up on Malifaux. Great game, new mechanics.

Yes indeed, once they expand to 'chaotic northern warriors' and 'germanic styled gothic armoured humans'.
Of course, if they produced some evil ratmen as well, I might add them to the list as well.
I didn't care for their elf range, I do like their undead a great deal.
With GW's blinding greed and apparent desire to drive themselves into a shallow grave, I applaud mantic and can't wait until their range and distribution makes them a serious contender with GW. I think healthy competition is precisely what it needs to unplug it's head from it's arse.

I'm pretty happy with Mantic as well (in the model sense) and I'm wondering how their rules are to play. Anyone try the beta? An undead and/or orc army would be fun, but then again I've also got a bunch of dwarven warriors waiting to be used. Might supplement the dwarven berzerkers with the Avatars of War guys. If anyone can say how well the game plays, I'll be quite tempted to try it

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

I'm also cutting back out GW (keeping my Ultras and Orks at 1500, and just put up my CSM on eBay), and have been considering either Kings of War or Warmachine. I really enjoy both systems, but have only played WM so far.
What I've found out about Kings of War so far:
- The ruleset is free and will always remain free. It's also only 12 pages long but it is clear and the rules are extremely easy to pick up. There are no charts to memorize, for example. Here is the current version of the rules: http://www.manticgames.com/SiteData/Root/File/KOW%20-%20Ruleset%20%28English%29.pdf
- The models are dirt cheap when you look at how many you get for the price. Mantic really mean it when they say "build big armies."
- The rules get out of the way of the tactics of the game as they're so simple. In addition, the rules scale up to how many points you want to play because of how models are treated: There's only units!
- The Undead range is astounding. My favorite set is the Revenant Calvary: http://www.manticgames.com/Shop-Home/Undead/Cavalry/Product/Undead-Revenant-Cavalry-10-Figures.html

I second this motion, and according to the chaps demonstrating the game at the last DakkaCon, they're working on it. Personally, I'm looking forward to their Orc range. Those models look sweet, and if they come out with a unit of "Orcs in heavy armor," I'm sold.

I wouldn't mind but it has nothing to do with GW.

I enjoy their ICs, but some of the troops are very meh...
Though, once I sell my remaining Eldar and SoB I may pick up Kings Hold (or whatever it is called)

I assume you're talking about Dwarf King's Hold, the board game (a.k.a. "Dwarf Hulk"). I like Mantic on principle, but I'm not looking to expand into WFB or an equivalent game, right now. After seeing the BoW gameplay demo for DKH, though, I'd be seriously tempted to pick up a copy, if I had the scratch. Plus, they're expanding the rules and tile sets with subsequent releases covering their other army ranges. Orcs and Elves are up next, if memory serves. Mantic seems like a company with the right idea and I think it's great that they have the boxed game(s) and a solidly scalable ruleset for the core game, allowing players some flexibility in their level of involvement.

I <3 their Chaos Dwarf range. Looks fantastic, better than the FW Chaos Dwarfs in many aspects.

for me it's all about the models and so far Mantic's models just don't interest me all that much. Some are nice but overall I just like GW's models better. Not only that, but my club is pretty much all WFB and 40K, buying into a new system = wasted time and money cuz no one else I know will play it. And I don't have the kind of schedule that permits hanging at my FLGS hoping to play with someone. So yeah, for me, it's just GW
