Today i was trying to use a soldering to create the effect of a melta hit, when i realized that it also works great to make scratches, bolter shots, phisical hits and almost and kind of battle damages or effects; the results are great and very realistic, and it's also very easy to do: just use the soldering like if it was a brush to "draw" holes and scratches, then paint them with Chainmail or something similar.
This is what i've managed to create at my first try: (still need to improve the paintjob btw)

What do you think? Anyone else uses this technique? If someone is interested i will create a quick guide

It's a good idea for melta or lascannon or even Gauss type impacts, which melt their target. But I'm not convinced it works so well for non-heat-related impacts - the holes are fine but the raised crater edges don't make much sense in that case (although you could then trim them with a scalpel blade).

The other variation is to apply the soldering iron to the underside of what you're trying to melt and let the plastic slowly soften - great for making dents or showing Chaotic swellings from within.

Seems to me you did a good job on everything except the tank hatch. The hatch looks like a single solid piece, and the damage doesn't look right. Baring that though, wicked.

It doesn't matter how bloody far the apple falls from the tree. If the apple fell off of a Granny Smith, that apple is going to grow into a Granny bloody Smith. The only difference is whether that apple grows in the shade of the tree it fell from.
