Hey all... I am going to be starting (re-starting after they were stolen, actually) Orks and focusing on a more steampunking, mechanical look rather than a cleaner more organic look, and I have a painting question: How do you paint engines/exhausts/etc all dirtied up? I'm looking for leaking oil, exhaust, and the like - a dirty, grimey, steampunk-ish look. Any suggestions (and especially pics) would be greatly appreciated

There is an attitude that not having an insanely optimized, one shot, six stage, omnidirectional, inevitable, mousetrap of an assassin list army somehow means that you have foolishly wasted your life building 500 points of pure, 24 karat, hand rolled, fine, cuban fail. That attitude has been shown, under laboratory conditions, to cause cancer of the fun gland.

The ultimate tool for dirtying up (imo) are sort of transparent brown paints.
I use Vallejos smoke for that, it works wonders.

Not the best pic for showing its effect, but the grill next to the checker patterned armor plate on the middle right and the pistons were done with it.

Devlan Mud wash, Badab Black wash, soot black weathering pigment. All you need and more.
