(Sloppy date) 1939
I heard the Germans invaded poland today. Heard they took it in little under a day. Dunno if that is true, but if it is me and my pals are going to be locked in war before to long. I told my Mum I wouldn't enlist. I lied. She broke down cryng when she found out her 17 year old lad went off and joined the army. I sent her a letter 2 days after I left. It hurts to think about her at night. The army is ok I guess. The grub is tasty,but you have to work your arse off to get it, so it evens out in the end. I hope I get my rifle and pistol soon. Laundry aslo cried when I told her. Poor sissy.

Ok so you can see this will be sections of journal entrys. They won't always be 17 year old british roberts either.I might do a few German or occupation ones so keep your eyes open! I know this one is uneventful, but tell me if you want to hear more!

(Scribled dat) 1939

We all got rifles today. We have been training with them since morning. THe sun is almost down now. We are going to deploy somewhere in Europe before 1940. Im scared right now. You may think im spineless, but my rifle keeps jamming, and I hope it dosn't do that in battle. If it does I won't survive the war. Mum wrote back Yesterday. She told me- No she ordered me to send home all my pay, but she dosn't know how much im making, so I will keep maybe 150 pounds a month or so. Bless her heart. My best friend enlisted the other day, so we can go to Boot together. May be a light at the end of the tunnel.

Ahhh you have figured out my secret. Im going to try to do at least one or two entrys a day(One of both sides) and by the end you will be shocked( I have a BIG ending planned) and realize the name

September 6th 1939

I helped invade poland today. The gave me my Mauser 98K only a month ago! I killed a few of the polish cavalry with it. I was "Tank support" so I had to kill stragglers and cavalry. I love serving the Fatherland. After the tanked dropped us off a young boy, no more than my age attacked us. He jumped on me with a knife. I have a gash on my arm from where he sliced shoulder down to my elbow. He almost got my pressure point, which my Sarge said would kill me. I disarmed him and stabed him to death in the chest. Oi here comes the officer, that means lights out.

Was it a good thing, or blunt insult? It was neither. I was trying to say what happened in German, I supposed it came off dickish.

They will get longer as the campaign gets interesting, because frnakly, these are uneventful espessicaly roberts'

September 12th 1939

We started live rifle training, moving with it, shooting with it, and fighting over-all with it. Me and my pals had to fire 450 rounds of live ammo with our Lee Enfields. I got a 95 as my shooting score. The best shooter got 96. Man am I mad, the winner gets an extra hour of rest in the morning. Oh well another shooting contest in 2400 hours.We had chinese food for dinner, maybe that is a bad sign. Whats worse is it was amazingly delicious.
