Subject: Question about charging

Deadly Tomb Guard

So I was going over the rules about charging with a fine-toothed comb, (along with "Make Way rules" because I allowed a make way when I shouldn't have last week, I multi-charged a unit, and he made way away from the RnF unit to get into combat with my Necrosphinx, which he pimped like a 2 dollar hooker, but I digress.)
Anyway, the +1 combat res bonus for charging is applied to the unit that charges, and I can't find any sort of limiter to the bonus as in "you may only apply the bonus for charging once".
This means if I charge with 2 units against another unit, I get +2 for that C-Res, right?
Also if 2 units were to charge downhill I would get +4?
Perhaps if I charged down hill with both units into the flank of a unit I'd get a +5 (or one front, one flank, for that matter.)

Page 59 is your friend. Check out the Charging and The High Ground sub headings on said page.
In short, you're restricted to +1 if one or more units is charging, and +1 to the side with the highest charging unit.

Red, you're the man. I hate this new edition. So poorly written.

It's so poorly written because the rule was clearly stated on the multiple combats page? Where else would it be?

I don't know about you, but when I think about combat res, I go to the combat res section of the book. It's not there. Why the hell would you go to the "multiple combats" section too look for a limiter on charging? Why wouldn't it just be in the description for "charging"?
@ Nos
7th was a breeze to read. Just rules, well organized, they had no problem with redundancy if the rule in question came into play...

Have to agree wtih Ragnar here, there are far too many places one must look just to get the complete "Characters riding stuff" rules, for example.

Good news. This is the best time in the hobby. Full of promise. GW lets us down each time and we know it but secretly we're hoping that this is the edition that GW gives us a balanced game that can also be played competitively at tournaments. I'm loving it.

Yea I agree. I don't know what 7th looked like, but there are much clearer rules systems out there. I wish they would make the first 2 pages or so of each section a summary/checklist table of all the relevant rules, and then have the talky walk through part afterwards. There is just too much flipping around now, and having to remember that Fine Point #46 is in a completely different section than the rest of the rules applying to a situation is annoying.
Not saying it couldn't be a LOT worse, but it would be nice to find all the modifiers or rules related to characters on mounts all in one place, among other things.

@Nagashek and Wehrkind:
I agree. I had to ask some of my buddies to clarify the rules for characters on chariots for my new Beastmen army. I have to admit I am still a little confused, but I know enough to know it's probably not a good idea, since they can't join units. Hello cannonball to the face.

Ragnar - 7th had some *horrid* rules combinations, and areas that people just plain ignored (LOS and trees being one of them) as they did not function at all well.
