I've read Rynn's World, but I have heard snipits about they're earlier days. I was wondering where I could learn more. I've read the Wiki, but it only seems to mention the Rynn's World incident. And the only writing about what happened after that I've found was in the space marine codex. What happened to Cortez to make him disappear? Why have they been called the Inquisition's lapdogs?

AFAIK Cortez didn't disappear...
Not sure on the Inquisition thing either...
There was a pretty strange idea about the missile being sabotaged by an assassin to teach them a lesson but i'm pretty sure that is retconned.

The Eldar are known for kidnapping individuals they think can help them... If he isn't dead (He is tough even for marine) then that is likely whta has happened to him.
The Inquisition thing may be them bowing to the Inquisition over a certain matter, the Crimson Fists were badly weakened by the attack on their homeworld so they wouldn't be well placed to start arguments with the Inquisition.

Their called lapdogs because they have helped the inquisition hunt down and destroy 2 other chapters that went renegade or suspected of being renegade.

Working on Imperial guard Kill Team. And a Nightlords 40k army.

You can either track down and buy that edition of white dwarf(287) on ebay/swap shop or you can track down a copy of the index astartes (a large compilation of white dwarf articles on different chapters and things related to the astartes). It has the history, combat tactics, geneseed corruptions, etc of every major chapter and legion.

The wiki has every source of crimson fist knowledge in the sources section. For instance "crimson tears" by ben counter.

TheMuppetMaster wrote:Why have they been called the Inquisition's lapdogs?

From the lexicanum: "The Crimson Fists have always had close ties with the Imperium and the Inquisition. They have contributed many warriors to the kill-teams of the Ordo Xenos, being renowned Ork fighters. They have also, at the order of Terra and the Inquisition, destroyed two chapters of brother Space Marines; the insane Sons of Gideon and the mind-wiped Marines Vigilant. This has earned them a reputation as lap dogs of the Inquisition among certain chapters. "

How did you read the part calling them lapdogs and not read the previous part?

In the embrace of the great Nurgle, I am no longer afraid, for with His pestilential favour I have become that which I once most feared: Death.

IIRC it was tucked away in the corner of a codex somewhere and explicitly identified as a rumor. There's never been anything to indicate that an assassin actually did do the job, and I think it's safe to argue that it really was the completely fluke that it appeared to be.

The problem, of course, is that people have a hard time accepting statistical flukes when they occur, so they try and make up alternate explanations for why the unlikely took place. Assassins, being the sorts of individuals who can probably pull off that sort of stunt and who do actually sometimes get used to "create accidents", are an obvious culprit to blame in such a situation.

As much as I like the intrigue of the assasin, I feel that the malfunction kind of represents the cruelty of chance.

I mush have missed the wiki part about the other chapters. is there a written account of this? or is it another obscure blurb in a old codex with little depth?

Can the book Crimson Tears be read as a stand alone or should I start at the beginning of the series?

Celestial Lions were the other chapter IIRC...
I prefer the random chance in all honesty.
Assassin seems too... needlessly complicated. The random chance seems to show that even with the best defenses you can get everyone is subject to chance.

There you go. Like rolling a 1 for a terminator's armor save and his inv save after his land raider exploded.

iirc, the Celestial Lions were the chapter that suffered "suspiciously accurate" sniper fire while fighting against orks.

They also lost most of their chapter command to a 'freak accident' and a great deal of their chapter was destroyed during an Ork ambush.
93 still survive and they have sworn to fight to the death since they have no way of reclaiming their gene-seed or recruitig new marines.

What other chapter?

The other chapter that was messed with by the Inquisition, they are mentioned next to the Rynn's World incident in the old Assassins codex AFAIK.
