You might want the 'Das Book' book eventually, and you'll need one or more books for the appropriate era for army lists. British and Germans are covered in several books.
|
Working on someting you'll either love or hate. Hopefully to be revealed by November.

First, you'll need to decide which era you want to play in. Germans and Brits are in each era - Early, Mid and Late war.
Then you'll need the books. The main rulebook is a must buy. Now, if you're a fan of the whole Medal of Honor/Call of Duty, then I'd suggest you get into Late War, and pick up the D-Day books, 'Turning Tide' and 'Earth and Steel'. You get a massive collection of Armerican, British and German armies.
After that, you have to pick your army. Do you want to be a tank company? What about mechanized infantry? A rifle company? Perhaps paras?

They actually have/had a book called 'Das Book' but it appears to be out-of-print and is no longer on The War Store. It is/was a cheap compilation of special rules (not army lists) to keep everyone in the loop and help reduce carry-weight.
So, as I understand it, it'd have the rules for special fortifications, but not the army list that has access to them. Automatically Appended Next Post: I have North Africa, and it's a neat book. Covers a lot of 'territory' and has enough varied lists that I believe a small gaming group could all share. FoW is written such that as long as armies are built from the same time period they're compatible, so North Africa brits in desert camo can fight Russians in winter camo. Sure, the historical aspect is way off, but it's playable.

If you want Monte Cassino, you should get Fortress Europe. The British/American/German armies are each given 2 points costs - one for the fighting in Normandy, and the other for the Italian theatre.

Cool I can get das book from another site but i'll wait for Monte casino. Spent enough time at war memorials and war graves around there I should at least replicate what they went through.

Probably going to go for a fallschmerger company to be historically correct with lots of arty with some tanks as there were some there.

If you look in to it you'll find that a large book like North Africa will actullay have armies in that replicate other battles and other units as well. the FOW website also offers free PDF's for certain armies so be sure to check there as well.

If you want to get paratroopers, see if you can get one of the old Fallshrimjager army boxes. they have a full company in them. After that you can buy odds and ends.
The starter box comes with a rules book, it has all the rules that the large rule book has, minus all the pretty pictures, so another rules book is not necessary.
As mentioned above, Africa and Fortress Europe have lists that would work for Casino, until the book comes out later this year.

Play around with what you have on hand to get a feel for the game. Then you'll have a better idea of what armies you'd like to put together.

Actually the LW Cassino sourcebook is coming out now. It includes specialized lists to focus on the infantry heavy fighting around Monte Cassino. The Fortress Europe book is geared more towards general Italian campaign forces.
Just to clarify...
