I'm not sure if this is the proper place to post this but it seemed like the best option. Anyways I am making a space marine army and want a feel like the imperial fists almost like a descendant chapter that's rogue but not chaos. I pretty much am asking if this sounds like a believable and accurate background fluff for my army. During the period of time that the imperial fists took to conform to the codex astartes some Marines splintered and ended up forming their own chapter with belief that the old emperor would not support what the emperor became and what the empire became and what it now stands for they would be named the righteous fists. Also please help give background and tips and point out any flaws with this.

Most Second Founding Chapters are well accounted for. any renegade groups would likely have ben destroyed as a threat to the stability of the newly born Imperium, change when they were founded to a later date.
Imperial Fists were loyal to extremes. They are willing to purge each other if they think it is necessary. If the chapter instead went renegade for either a slight against their chapter that escalated or other reasons it would make more sense.
Righteous Fists is a good name but if they don't believe the Emperor is a god then it doesn't make much sense.
This has some promise especially as a renegade chapter rather than a chaotic one.

So they are renegades that believe the Emperor has changed as a god? Or, that he isn't all powerful?
The reasons for going renegade need to be well explained.

Possibly they could believe that the emperor now is tainted and he is now himself a chaos god that feeds on man while protecting his food source from other chaotic forces, I kinda think the emperor is pretty creepy because he feeds on people he has godly powers and barely anyone sees him. Remember these are just ideas hahahaha

Well they would be deemed fully heretics by pretty much all Imperial forces...
It is also likely they would act similar to Chaos forces.
They can go renegade because of a simple difference in beliefs between the Imperial cult and the astartes cult.
Most Astartes do not see the Emperor as a god, the rest of the Imperium (Barring Mechanicus kind of) worship him as a god.
If an outsider with more power than brains were to learn this he/she may declare them renegade.

I never actually read much about the soul drinkers but I do know they were renegade, would this chapter be like them (without the mutations). And not to sound noobish but how would I move the article or would I just start this topic in a new section?

They wouldn't be like the Soul Drinker's since they still fight for the Emperor and Humanity but are opposed to the Imperium. Your Chapter sounds like they are fighting kinda against all of it barring Humanity.

If i were you i would set the chapter up like this:
On the Eastern Fringe (Get a nice mix of Xenos and Heretics)
They are a 10th founding chapter.
They follow the Emperor as their father and a great man.
IF Successor.
An Imperial cardinal visits a world where a Chaplain has led a force to guard pilgrimages during their travels. The Chaplain and the Cardinal talk and eventually start debating the divinity of the Emperor.
The debate goes public and both the Cardinal and the Chaplain lead sermons on the subject.
The Chaplain wins the 'contest' and the Cardinal is sour.
He claims the Chaplain is a heretic and through a mixture of coercion and twisting faith the planet is thrown into civil war.
The Chaplain uses the non-hostile populace to aid them in neutralizing the hostile civilians and capturing the Cardinal.
The Cardinal chooses Martyrdom over having to face his shame.
Chaplain gets mucho blame.
A puritan Inquisitor declares them heretic and tries to purge them
The majority of the chapter gets away with some elements either being captured or dying as a rearguard.
The chapter rebuilds its base outside of the Imperium and begins reconstituting their numbers.
They now defend planets that cannot defend themselves or need help defending themselves. They destroy an enemy force on the attack and then move on before they can be stopped.

Depends...
If they got away fairly clean i'd say give or take 600 for the survivors with around 200 being the rearguard.
You also need to decde on how much of their equipment they took with them.
Some things are near impossible to replace with the aid of a foregeworld let alone without them.

I think their numbers should be around 700 with your advice also their equipment should be basic also with little vehicles maybe 20 in total the vehicles would also have a very worn look too right? The chaplain would lead them and his name would be alek and there would be a large emphasis on scouts in the army because of the lack of equipment and experienced warriors most of the regular Marines should probably be veterans too.

They don't have to be living on the edge.
It is possible the chapter got away more or less intact with the bulk of their vehicles.
However, it does make things more interesting.

Don't specify an number, instead change it to mostly opnly tansports or salvaged tanks, these would look battle worn and repaired countless times.

If the Chapter Master was captured or killed in the rear guard it is possible the Chaplain would be elected to lead the chapter.

A large emphasis on scouts could be due to their wanting to refound the chapter along new lines. They wouldn't have a majority veteran force unless they were boiled down further to around 300 marines, at that point it would be only veterans.

Dreadnoughts would be perfectly reasonable, if the chapter was jumping ship they would try to take as much as possible, including the dreadnoughts and as much equipment as they can.

Good points so 700 Marines a balanced force open topped vehicles and salvaged tanks large emphasis on scouts a chaplain leader (mostly because it sounds cool) a few dreadnaughts and a cautious but vicious attitude in combat. This chapter wouldn't follow astartes guidelines hahaha.

You still need to use the SM codex, unless you are going with a different one?
The rhinos don't need to be open topped just battle worn and possibly unreliable, with tanks salvaged from other chapters.
