I just asking because it dose't make sense that you have a scoring unit that has gone to ground because in real life they are trying to regroup. I lost a game because of this against a mech tau army. Any suggestions?

In real life they are simply keeping their heads down and waiting for an area to clear: think any scene from any war movie where the squad is all hiding behind hard cover/out of LOS from a Sniper up in a window; that squad in that movie is pinned(and generally call for help stating that they are "pinned down".)

Pinned units can score just fine, after all: all they need to do is be at the objective alone at the end of the game.

Shouldn't this be in proposed rules? Since nothing in the rules says this is so or should be so.
Going to ground doesn't mean they are trying to re group, it just means they all stopped and dived behind a pebble for cover.

For komisinnar kel (im not sure i spelled that right) gone to ground and pinning are not the same thing. For roger i don't think it is supposed to be in the proposed rules section.

Pinned is simply going to ground involuntarily.

Well... what part of the rule can you cite to support your opinion or that is causing confusion?
Just saying "well in real life..." is not really sufficient, an ambiguous rule should at least be accompanied with such a statement, otherwise its kind of just wishing for something to be true.

Being pinned or Gone to Ground has no bearing on whether or not a unit can hold/contest and objective. Are they still on the table and within 3" of the objective? If yes, then they can hold/contest it.

To hold an objective you must be a troop unit, and within three inches of it.

It doesn't matter if they're all smelling each others farts, as long as they are troops, and are within three inches. Barring contesting units of course. I think its fine that if a unit has gone to ground, meaning keeping their heads down, avoiding enemy fire, waiting for a break to return fire that they can still hold objectives. If it isn't broken, don't fix it.

In game terms, they certainly are the same thing (just one is voluntary while the other isn't). See the rulebook FAQ.

For the original question, there is nothing in the scoring rules that prevents a scoring unit that has gone to ground from taking objectives.

Controlling an objetive is based on the units presence, not on what the units are currently doing.

They arnt shooting back? So what. There still in control of the area.

I don't believe this is entirely true. If my memory serves me right fleeing units cannot hold objectives. That said, gone to ground or being pinned is not running away so you should score.

Its not that fleeing troops can't hold objectives, is that they are removed and counted as destroyed before counting victory conditions

+1

True! Most people don't remember this point. It typically has no impact since they mistakenly believe that fleeing is one of the three exceptions (p. 90 of the rule book) when Troops do not count as scoring, and both the Truth and the Mistake provide the same result.
