Is it possible to make the system of "kill points" a bit fairer eg: 2000 point of Orks = 13 units v 2000 points Grey Nights = 5/6 units, knight could be down to one warrior at turn 6 yet still win fight if Orks have lost 7 units? Is this how it works?

That's how it works. If they kill more units than you do, they win. not going to get into whether it's 'fair' or 'balanced', as that has nothing to do with the rules. And I play IG, usually 16-20 KP on the table................

You think that's unfair?

Try playing Tau in KP!!!

Drones from vehicles give a sodding KP away.

I have no problem with KP and it's only 1/3 of the games usually played. *shrugs*

not anymore. if they stay on the vehicle they die with it and don't give away an additional kill point.

Besides, Kill Points exist to give MSU armies a disadvantage. Without Kill Points, Imperial Guard mech lists would be even better than they already are.

For thirteen years I had a dog with fur the darkest black. For thirteen years he was my friend, oh how I want him back.

As above.

KP can serve to discourage MSU armies, which have an inherent advantage in Objective games.

True...

But they are so useful off the vehicle sometimes!

That being said, no in KP games. ;-)

My 2000 point IG list puts 22 KP (12 infantry squads and 10 vehicles) on the table. It is a challenge to win Annihilation battles but I find that can win half of them. Dawn of War setups usually cause the most difficulty since I get fewer turns of full shooting. Eldar, Necrons, and Ork "Green Tide" armies tend to be very tough opponents but most other small elite armies can be defeated. My favorite opponents in KP missions are DE and other IG.

The secret to painting a really big army is to keep at it. You can't reach your destination if you never take any steps.

I build IG...lots and lots of IG.

that is how it works, The fun part is that the MEC are easier to kill by just overwhelming them by sheer numbers

Used Orks against GK, Crowe and his cleansing flame are lethal, and with his 2+ save he is hard to kill. In a 3 way 1500 point fight for objectives GK =4, Marines=1, Orks =1. I think if we had thrown all 3000 point against the GK they would still win LOL with Crowe and the Dread Knight holding objectives they are hard to beat. Admittedly my Orks got boxed in by my dead Trukk and dead Killa Kans which meant the only way out was through Crowe. Lootas were firing rubber bullets. But I did manage to damage the Marines. A good fight and a well deserved win for the GK.
