I am a lazy modeller.

Seriously. I LOATHE having to cut, sand and glue my spacebros together. It's annoying.

But the thing that bugs me the most is the base. Why the base? Because I know that no matter what I do with it, I'm going to be unsatisfied. If I try to model a tile base, I KNOW I'll be fighting on a sandy battlefield. If I try to model a sandy base, I'll probably get stuck on a gravel battlefield. And I hate that. Besides, I'm too cheap to spend all that effort on something that I know will end up clashing.

So here's my question: is it okay to have a naked base?

When will this moment pass?

NO IT IS NOT OK

Of course it's ok! Hell, you don't even need to paint your models if you don't want to!

what about pre-made resin bases?

The cost does add up, but their is very little that you need to do with them.

It will often happen that the gameboard will not fit your basing, but who cares?
Make it neutral and no one will take much care.

But a naked base just takes away so much off the model.

I think OP is talking about the paint scheme.

It's a fact of life, Hawkward. Just find a scheme you like and stick with it, even if that means naked bases.. All my models are painted with a desert basing scheme, but my club doesn't have any desert tables (at least not yet).

If what drives you crazy about your bases is that the setting is always clashing with the table you are on, why not use sheets of clear plastic and press out your own properly sized bases? It won't be crystal clear of course but it may blend better than black plastic.

Just stick with a neutral base colour. For example my BA are based on codex grey sand. It doesnt clash with the scheme, its easy to paint and It doesnt clash with sand, grass and matches snow and urban terrain.

Just because I don't care, Doesn't mean I don't understand!

I'm both orderly and rational. I value control, information, and order. I love structure and hierarchy, and will actively use whatever power or knowledge I have to maintain it. At best, I am lawful and insightful; at worst, I am bureaucratic and tyrannical.
