I've been encountering a problem when I upload my pics to dakka and would love some help.
When I upload pics onto my mac, they go into iphoto under Last Import, but when I try to upload on dakka and click on Last Import it keeps going to some random image my wife downloaded off the internet about 3 weeks ago. They also do not appear in the "Event" that I've put them under (which is the mac's fancy way of saying "folder"). This makes me have to go through a "Today" List which pulls up all manner of what not. It causes me to filter through heaps of files (most that just populated the list from launching my web browser) which is really annoying.
Is anyone else experiencing this?
Anyone know how to fix it?

I am aware that my main problem is owning a mac and not a pc

And if this is the wrong forum to post this in, I apologize to the MODs and you, fine gents, can move it to wherever you see fit.

Thanks!

First, I would not upload pictures to iPhoto unless you want pictures to be in iPhoto. You can change this in the preferences in iPhoto, under the option "Connecting Camera:". Just deselect "Opens iPhoto" as an option. If you select "Does Nothing", then when the camera is connected, it mounts as an external hard drive, but just sits there. You can drag your photos wherever you please.

Second, "Events" is not a fancy way of saying "folder". iPhoto handles files in large folders by the date you imported them. These folders are normally invisible and locked within the iPhoto Library. "Events", "Places", and "Faces" are all information tags attached to those files that tell iPhoto how to organize them in those categories. They do not reflect where they are stored. This is because the photos are not stored in three places (under different Event, Place, and Face tags (especially since one photo can have multiple faces). iPhoto keeps originals of all of your pictures in the library, and only displays the final, edited, altered image to you.

If you want to use iPhoto to handle all of your pics, I would select the pics you want to upload to Dakka and choose the "Export" menu. This allows you to select (or create) a destination folder (call it "Dakka Uploads" if you want, and locate it wherever it is convenient for you to find). You can select the file format (which will normally still be jpegs for dakka), but it also allows you to choose a file size for the photo, and other convenient options.

Then, when you are on Dakka, you can easily navigate to your chosen folder and select photos which are already formatted to the size you would like to display on Dakka.

The "problem" with iPhoto is that it is not just a simple "photo folder". It contains a lot of options for editing, organizing, and sharing photos. You can use it to upload to Facebook, or to create your own physical photo books. It also maintains original photos for you, while allowing you to edit them extensively. However, it presents itself like it is just tossing photo files into a folder with a name. I'm not a Mac genius, so I hope this helps (and I hope I didn't get anything wrong).
