Any army can be competitive if its played right, but there are some that are better than others. BA, DE, Orks, GK, IG, and Space Wolves are the big hitters. Im my opinion guard is the best thing out there

Probably work

Before you plan out an army too much, you might want to wait until the rules come out. Last year they built comp into the rules so that mech armies were ridiculously gimped round 3. It would be a good idea to know what you're getting into prior to making the commitment.

Just play what you want. It's free so it really doesn't matter what happens.

2012- stopped caring
Nova Open 2011- Orks 8th Seed---(I see a trend)
Adepticon 2011- Mike H. Orks 8th Seed (This was the WTF list of the Final 16)
Adepticon 2011- Combat Patrol Best General

I thought 'Ard boyz didn't have comp? Isn't that the point?

It doesnt but some stores add additional stipulations and some even charge for the event. Id check out your local stores before you just show up (especially if theyre small and dont have a proven record of running events)

If you do find a store charging or adding additional stipulations, I would report it to GW asap. Didn't stores get in trouble for this last year?

Yeah but who knows what "trouble" means. The prelims doesnt have much oversight really.

True, but I would report early and head to another store. Shenanigans are uncool.

There technically isn't comp, but there can be missions that 'accidentally' cripple certain builds/armies. IIRC the one he's referring to was a mission with hyper-KPs. My Sisters list had 57 KPs in that mission, luckily I tabled my opponent but many others weren't so lucky.

Sometimes, you just gotta take something cause the model is freakin cool...
