Most of you know I am not averse to painting, I enjoy it and find it relaxing and rewarding. However, my patience has been sorely tested by the Space Marine Drop Pod (The FW old style one). It took me 6-7 Hours just to base coat it and it's no where near finished. It's the fact you have to paint it inside and out! It need a wash, a tidy up and some fine detail.



Anyone got any similarly infuriating models? I am guessing Monoliths are a pain, although you can probably airbrush them quickly.

Shoot, just this tyrant (ogres) alone has pretty much become a side project to me, being easily replaced by other stuff. He's not even that big considering other figures out there which is even more annoying.

The Drop-dop, new plastic kits just as bad, did one never again.
The Valkyrie and Stormraver are a close second, but only if your bother about the interia and pilot

So glad that it fit with my army's fluff to have all the Valkyrie side doors etc. closed. The thing was a pain in the backside enough without the thought of having to do the interiors...

To be honest I'm just struggling with the terrain piece 'Shrine of the Aquila'. The huge Aquila section of it which is meant to be gold is a nightmare. I have no idea how to paint gold on that scale cause the method I used on miniature figures is definitely not working. Wasted hours working on it and it doesn't even look half good.

I would use Vallejo Old Gold. It's Alcohol with gold flecks in it. You need to use a Brush and only clean it in Alcohol (e.g Meths) NO, REPEAT NO WATER.

If even a tiny amount of water gets in there it rusts!



It is amazing stuff, literally amazing (about £3.50 a pot) you need to paint it on in several thin layers. It looks amazing..

Well at £3.50 i doubt it's real gold in the pot mate... So it will be a metal compound, or effect like Gold. Despite Gold being a Non-reactive metal, I doubt the pot contains gold. If it does £3.50 for 50g is a Bargain.

But yeah, Rust is for Iron based Oxides, which it might be.

Tau tanks are a nuisance.

Zinc+copper most likely. They have to report cadmium and other toxics. Old gold doesn't show any heavy metals though other colors do. Zinc is the fastest corroding metal too!
