In quite a few of the 40k novels (helreach most noteably) Space marines often refer to them selves as no longer being human. It seems as though they are offended at being called a man or a human.
Well if they are not Human then they must be an alien or a Xeno 
Just a plot hole i would like to bring to people attentions

Son you can insult me, you can ambush me, you can even take away my weapons. But if you think im going to step one single pinky toe inside blue base with out my SHOTGUN... you must not know who you dealing with.

They are ubermensch... Super-Men.
To call them a "man" is to compare them to the soldiers of the Imperial Guard who, though they may fight valiantly and, occasionally, have an individual who undertakes some heroic feat in the face of certain death without fear or hesitation... this is something Space Marines do all the time, as a fundamental part of their job.
As one comments, "I am a Space Marine. I do not know how to fail."
