So I decided to start posting some of my work in one centralized location here on Dakka. In this blog I hope too post pics of all my work, with tutorials on how I paint everything. Hopefully it will inspire some others and get some new ideas that maybe they hadnt thought of. I will also use this to post Battle reports in the games that I play with my local gorup.

Before I start showing WIP pictures of the things on my desk, I am going to take pictures of all my models I have currently painted, and how I went about painting them.

First off are a couple Hive Tyrants from my Nid army.

With my Nids I decided to try out Dipping. I wanted something that would look decent for Nids, and due to the fact that this was my first army after taking a long break from the hobby, I wanted something that I could do quickly so I could get to gaming.

Steps are as follows :

Basespray the model in Armypainter bone spray
Paint the carapace with GW Blazing orange
Paint all the claws, spikes, and Bone with GW Chaos Black
Paint all the fleshy inside pieces with GW Camo green
Paint on a 75 / 25 mix of Minwax Polyshades Bombay Mahogany / Mineral spirits all over the model
Let dry for 24 hours minimum
Spread elmers glue on base and base using sand & small rocks
Let dry for 24 hours minimum
Paint sand and rocks on Base with a 50/50 mix of GW Scab Red and GW Warlock Purple
Drybrush base with GW chaos black

I like the look of the Polyshades on Nids. My other armies are painted the old fashioned way, I will post some of them up later, along with some of my other Nid Models.

Hope you enjoy!

Got some time last night to take a few more pics of some stuff, going to work my way through my Nids, Then post some of my Crimson Fists, Then some of my Dark Eldar, Orks, and Malifaux models.

First off we have some Tyrant Guard

Next up is a Tyranid Prime

The Tyranid Prime is made from an old second edition Hive Tyrant. For the Boneswords I used the Alien Bio Swords From Paulson Games. I just took a set of scything talons that I had lying around, cut off the talons, and glued the boneswords onto the model. I am going to make another one of these guys. My biggest complaint on how he turned out, was that the scything talon arms I used ended up being too close to his body. For the next one I am going to find some arms that will allow a better pose. But for now he works, and he is the perfect size (smaller than a tyrant but bigger than a warrior).

Moving into the Elites section is a Venomthrope. I want to get more of these guys, as I think they would fit well in a Swarm Tervigon style list, but as GW seems to be dragging their feet giving us Nid players Tervigons, I will wait.

Thats it for this update. All the models seen here were painted in my normal nid scheme that you can find in post #1. I will be uploading more stuff this weekend. Hopefully I can get my camera fixed and set up some sort of lightbox to take pictures with as well. All the pics taken so far have been with my phone, and while they arent horrible, I think I could do better.

Thanks for looking!

Dipping really seems to suit 'nid's! I really like the shiny effect on the carapace that dipping gives you. Males them look suitably organic and slimy.

@ shingouki - I will post a step by step pictorial guide on how I dip my models. I have some more Nids still on sprue that I could work on. You pick, want to see it performed on a ravenor, genestealer, Broodlord, gargoyle, termagant, or a Carnifex?

I need to get back on the ball with posting some pics of my stuff...its been a while.

Anyways, yesterday I got to play a game against a guy in the area. it was 1750 GK vs Nids Pitched Battle Annihilation. I have tried to do a little battle report using Vassal. I am still kinda new to the software, so be gentile The chimera is actually a Razorback, and the Demon prince is a dreadknight. (Looking back why didnt I get a space marine razorback to represent the razorback DUH)

Nids

Tyrant - Venom cannon - Whip and bonesword - Regen - Armored Shell
2 Tyrant Guard
2 Hive Guard
2 Hive Guard
12 Genestealers - Toxin
24 Hormagants - Toxin & Glands
13 Termagants
14 Termagants
17 Gargoyles - Toxin & Glands
Trygon Prime - Glands
Trygon - Glands

GK

Drago ?!
8 or 9 terminators
1 ML / Las Dread
1 Melta / Powerfist Dread
1 Dreadknight
Lascannon razorback with 5 GK in it
Rhino with 10 GK in it
Vindicare Assassin

(Forgive me I do not know each squads loadout...a bunch of blue pointy sticks is all I can recall)

Here is the deployment. GK got first turn, so after seeing his deployment, I decided to set up the majority of my forces on his flank away from the terminators.

GK Turn 1

He basically moves up, and unloads all his heavy weapons into my Trygon Prime. Doesnt manage to kill it thanks to his Assassin firing Turbo penetrator rounds missing.

Nids Turn 1

I move everything forward, and move the gargoyles to provide cover on my left. Hive Guard destroy the Razorback. Genestealers assault the dreadknight, and manage to do NOTHING!. Luckily the dreadknight whiffed as well

GK Turn 2

Tyranid Prime goes down to shooting. Gargoyle squad gets obliterated by combined fire from terminators and the marines that hop out of the rhino. Marines that were in the Razorback assault into the genestealers. Marines manage to kill a couple stealers, stealers put a wound on the Knight and kill a few marines.

Nid Turn 2

This is where I majorly screwed up this game. For some reason I had it in my head that my unit of Hormagants would be able to hurt a dreadnaught. Since its a walker and I dont hit on rear armor, they cant. I assaulted my Hormagants into the dreadnaught and got them stuck into a combat they couldnt even do anything in. DOH!. I move my termagants up and shoot into the marines that hopped out of the rhino, but do nothing. I then make another mistake and assault. I should have just shot, and then not assaulted, that way if the marines would not have the next turn to do as they please (because they would have had to shoot the termagants, or find a way around them). The termagants get ripped to shreds by the marines in CC. The genestealers throw all the attacks at the dreadknight and manage to kill it off. I decide to not throw anything at the marines, because I wanted to kill the marines off in the opponents turn.

GK turn 3

Marines hop into rhino, drive up, and with the all the firepower the GK's can muster, take down the Trygon. Terminators assault into the hormagants, killing a crap load. Hormagants are out of synapse, fail the Ld test, and run. Genestealers kill the remaining marines they are in CC with.

Nids turn 3

Termagants run forward, unload into the assassin, and take him down. Hive guard pop the rhino, and killing a couple marines in the explosion. Genestealers assault the marines killing a few, and taking a couple casualties as well. Cant remember who loses the combat, but neither unit runs, so they both stay locked in CC. Hormagants are below half, so they still runnin.

GK turn 4

The termies and the dreadnaught move through Area terrain towards my tyrant and hive guard. One squad of hive guard go down to their ranged fire. The backfield dreadnaught assaults the genestealers. Genestealers kill the rest of the marines, and get taken down to 2 models.

Nids turn 4

Hive guard shoot at dreadnaught and do nothing. Genestealers immobilize a dread in CC. Tyrant uses paryoxism on the terminators.

GK turn 5

Terminators shoot the hive guard and do nothing thanks to paryoxism and T6. Terminators then assault the hive guard and wipe em out. Genestealers and dreadnaught still in CC not managing to do anything to each other.

Nids turn 5

Termagants and Tyrant assault the terminators. I lose a couple gaunts and a Tyrant Guard, but manage to kill a couple terminators. Nids lose combat, but are fearless. Lose a couple gaunts to no retreat. Genestealers get stepped on by the dreadnaught.

Last Turn

This turn was nothing but CC between the remaining Nids and the GK terminators (there was also some IC in with the termies but I cant remember the name...maybe Drago or something). Anyways, in the last 2 rounds of combat I lose all the gaunts except for 2. And I kill off the remaining terminators leaving only the IC left.

We tally up the kill points and I lose by 1 KP. Was a very close and enjoyable game. Cant believe I screwed up like that on turn 2. I think I might have had it in the bag if I wouldnt have done that. O well. Thanks for reading!

Dunno if anyone is even reading these, but what the hell, gunna keep on posting lol.

Had the chance to play against a good friend of mine last night. Lists looked something like this :

Tyranids
Tyranid Prime 2 x Bonesword
2 x Hive Guard
2 x Hive Guard
Venomthrope
3 x Warriors (2 Deathspitters 1 Barbed Strangler)
8 x Toxic Stealers
8 x Toxic Stealers
7 x Genestealers
15 x Gargoyles Toxic and Glands
Trygon Prime with Glands
Trygon with Glands

Demons
Lord of Change
Harold of Tzeentch on Chariot
2 Demon Princes of Tzeentch
3 x Flamers
3 x Flamers
3 x Flamers
7 x Horrors
7 x Horrors
6 x Horrors
5 x Horrors

Game was 1500 points, Capture and Control, Table Quarters Deployment. I won the roll, decided to go first, and chose my table quarter to deploy into. I chose the corner that I did, so that my 3 squads of infiltrating stealers could hide in area terrain, thus giving me a presence in ever table quarter. After I deployed Tzeentch favored my opponent and he stole the initiative. Unfortunatly Tzeentch is fickle, and then decided that my opponents reserve wave would come in first.

Deployment

Demons Turn 1

Demons first wave shows up, 2 squads of horrors, Lord of Change, 2 demon princes and a Herald. He set them up in the only area he had that wouldnt immediatly get overrun on my turn. All demons shoot at the closest squad of genestealers. The stealers go to ground, but all still die to the barrage of insanity coming from the demons.

Nids Turn 1

I run almost everything foreward. The bulk of my army goes to the right, while the trygons move to the north. Gunna try to get these demons in a pincer attack where there is no escape. Warrior with barbed strangler shoots and kills 3 horrors. Due to a bad run roll I am unable to get my northern unit of stealers in cover, which is a shame...cus thats a juicy target just sitting out in the open.

Demons turn 2

Tzeentch favors my opponent and allows all of his reserves to come in this turn. I grit my teeth..this is going to hurt. All of the demons come in with minimal scatter. One unit of horrers however mishaps. The misshap roll is a 3, so I place the horrors into the forest area to my right. I figure they may still get to shoot at something, but since they are shooting out of area terrain I will get a cover save, and I will be able to take care of them next turn, while also moving my guys in the direction I am going. This also forces my opponent to take dangerous terrain tests, which ends up killing 1 horror. His whole army unloads into my Nids, killing my northern unit of stealers, 5 of my eastern unit, 7 gargoyles, 2 termagants, and puts 5 wounds on the Trygon. All in all I am happy, and he is dissapointed that he couldnt finish the job on the Trygon.

Nids Turn 2

Nids are hungry this turn and launch an all out assault on whatever they can reach. Gaunts walk over and kill a unit of flamers with their fleashborers, Tyranid Prime breaks off from the Warriors and assaults a unit of flamers, killing 2 and taking no wounds back. Trygon Prime assaults a unit of flamers, only killing 2 and taking no damage in return. The trygon assaults a unit of Horrors, wiping them out and consolidating towards the Herald. Toxin Stealers assault a unit of horrors only killing 1, and losing 1 in the process. Gargoyles rush forward assaulting a unit of horrors, wiping them out and consolidate towards a demon prince. Warriors assault the Horrors in the forest, taking no wounds, and killing 4. Hive Guard run into cover to try and get in range of the Demon Princes from next turn.

Demons Turn 3

His demon prince unloads into the gargoyles, killing 3. The gargoyles are out of synapse, so the fall back 10 inches towards my board edge (and my warrior synapse as well ). The Herald Zzaps the Trygon taking his last wound. The Lord of Change puts a wound on the Hive Guard in the center area terrain. The Tyranid Prime whiffs his attacks and the flamer does nothing as well. The trygon prime kills the last flamer he is in combat with and consolidates towards the Herald. One of the demon princes comes in to help the Horrors in CC with the Genestealers. Stealers whiff on their attacks, and get chopped to bits by the Demon Prince. Warriors finish off the Horrors in CC and consolidate towards the action.

Nids Turn 3

Gargoyles are within synapse so they rally and move towards the horrors. Both units of Hive guard shoot at a demon prince, both inflicting 1 wound. Warriors shoot at the Horrors killing 1, and the barbed strangler shot deviates to the far right demon prince inflicting a wound. Tyranid Prime finally kills the last flamer in CC and joins up with the termagants on my objective. The Trygon Prime charges the herald causing 2 wounds, and takes nothing in return. The Gargoyles multi assault into the Horrors and the Demon prince. My hopes are that his Prince has a bad round of combat, and a couple gargoyles survive locking both of his units in combat. The gargoyles inflict 1 wound on the Prince, and kill 2 Horrors, but are wiped out by the Demons.

Demons turn 4

Horrors and Demon Princes shoot into my warriors. My warriors would have been completely wiped out, had it not been for the venomthope providing cover. 2 warriors die, but 1 survives to fight on. Lord of Change flyes out of the terrain and assaults the Trygon Prime. The Lord does nothing in CC, and takes 2 wounds from the Prime in return. The Herald misses, and takes a fearless wound.

Nids turn 4

One unit of my Hive guard shoot and take the last wound from a demon prince. My other unit of Hive Guard shoot, miss, and charge the demon prince. The demon prince has some crappy rolls, the Hive guard have some epic rolls, and the last Demon Prince gets whacked back into the warp. The Lord of Change inflicts a wound onto the Tyrgon Prime, The trygon prime fails to wound the Lord, The Herald sits around picking his nose, and the Trygon Takes a fearless wound.

Demons Turn 5

The Horrors unload into the Hive Guard, killing 1. In close combat the Lord of Change, Herald, and trygon fail to do anything

Nids turn 5

The Warrior, Venomthrope, and one Hive Guard assault into the horrors killing them. The 2 man strong unit of Hive Guard assault into the Herald. The Lord of Change inflicts 2 wounds on the Trygon, The trygon does nothing in return, The herald does nothing, and the Hive Guard Kill the Herald. These Hive Guard must have ate their Cheerios this morning, cus they are kicking the gak out of everything.

Demons Turn 6

Lord of Change inflicts a wound on the Trygon. Trygon fails to wound the Lord. Trygon loses his last wound due to no retreat.

Nids Turn 6

Hive guard shoot the Lord of Change inflicting 1 wound. Then Everything in range assaults. Lord of Change misses many of his attacks, and inflicts 1 wound on the Venomthrope. Venomthrope passes his Ld check for Instant Deadt, and tentacles the Lord of Change, removing his last wound.

Victory Nids

Was a good game. I have played my opponent before on many occasions. He usually sends me packing with his guard army, but he is trying to make a mono tzeentch army work. I must say, as the games go on they are getting a bit rougher. The first couple games I played against this army, I dont think he killed more than 10 models total. Wont be too long before he gets the hang of it.

Thanks for reading!

I like the idea of using VASSAL for battle reports, I may just have to borrow that for my next one.

ok so very enjoyable reads. would love some pictures of the opponents armies prior to battle if theres time. using vassal makes the fight so much easier to follow but we do miss out on the photos of the opposing army. im greedy i'd love both.

finally how in the heck do you get vassal to work for 40k/whfb? i have it up and running for warmahordes but the link im using for gw says its not supported.

anyways thanks for the reads.

Thats a good idea, I will have to try and get a snapshot of the opponents army for next time.

Here is a link to the website that is still supporting the Vassal40K module. You should be able to find the latest version there.

K thx info.

as a daemon player id say your opponent lostl the game on turn two with nonoptimal flamer deployments.

If it was my game i would have concentrated on the forward most 2 genestealer squads with the flamers. I also would have shifted to the left away from the big bugs.

Of course hindsight is 20/20.

I'd also consider dropping the 3 flamer unit for a 2nd chariot.

I'm wondering how many of those horror squads have bolts(str8 ap1) shoots.

Sorry as a daemon player I'm forced to second quess any battlereport where the chaos gods don't deliver.

Thanks again for the link.

Well, my oponent was Izzyslapawitz (posted in this thread earlier), so maybe I can have him come on here and tell you how his demons were set up. This was only the third time he has played with Demons, and this was the best the army had performed. I know he is working on a second chariot, and a Soulgrinder, but I am sure he would welcome any advice, as he really wants to try and make a mono Tzeentch army work.

For the most part I am just kinda messing around with them to see what works. All my horrors had bolts but its still a 50% chance they will even hit anything. Yeah i am working on a 2nd herald if i can ever get a 2nd Screamer those things seem impossible to just get one of. To be Honest while he did ok this game I think the lord of change is just to many points i could get a 2nd herald and some change left over for other fun things. But whats a Tzeentch army without a lord of change that's just nonsense!

Shhhh I'm listening to reason.
