When you use a meltabomb on say a Predator, do you use the grenade on the rear armor? (AV10) or the facing you are assaulting?

It's treated as a close combat attack but you only get one single attack per grenade user (So charging or your attacks stat do not matter).

With that in mind, it's resolved against rear armor.

While not part of your question, just a friendly reminder meltabombs are melta weapons so no bonus from being AP 1

They are NOT melta weapons. Neither do they have an AP of any kind, just like a normal close combat attack.

Fluffwise, they are similar to a meltagun, and this is reflected in the way a meltabomb attack is resolved. However, rules-wise they are totally different.

I think he meant not, but accidentally left the word out; it is the only way the rest of his statement makes sense contextually(as he said no bonus for AP1)

This is my Rulebook. There are many Like it, but this one is mine. Without me, my rulebook is useless. Without my rulebook, I am useless.
Stop looking for buzz words and start reading the whole sentences.

I always thought Melta bombs were rear, but grenades were side armour.

Cue the Entrance of the Pedantic...

As noted by Ascalam, but spelled out for clarity...

Death or Glory attacks against vehicles during Tank Shock (in your opponent's movement phase) are resolved against the Front Armor.

So a melta bomb would hit automatically against the Front Armor and you would roll 2D6 and add the total to the base strength of 8 to calculate penetration.

- If you had a Glancing Hit then you would need a final modified result of either a "2" to stun it or a "4" to immobilize it; otherwise your brave warrior with the melta bomb is dead and the Tank Shock is resolved as normal.

- If your plucky warrior gets a Penetrating Hit with his melta bomb then he would need a "2", "4", "5", or "6" to stop the Tank Shock (and survive). Otherwise he is dead and the Tank Shock is resolved as normal.

Grenades would also hit automatically against the Front Armor but you would roll a 1D6 and add the total to the base strength of the grenade.

You can occasionally get a new Ork player to fall for the Tank Shock versus Nob with Power Klaw trick, wherein you entice your opponent to use his Nob to attempt a Death or Glory versus your Leman Russ or other tank-type vehicle with weak rear armor. It's the most favorable scenario for the vehicle since a smarter Ork player would simply let you get the Tank Shock and then assault your vehicle in his next Assault Phase, when he would get the full number of Nob attacks + 1 and they would all be resolved against the vehicle's rear armor.

The secret to painting a really big army is to keep at it. You can't reach your destination if you never take any steps.

I build IG...lots and lots of IG.
