Subject: Do you guys go to renaissance/celtic festivals
Usually its just too big of a hassle, so no. However, I did go to the largest renaissance festival in the world, they hold it in southern Germany (my current residence) and it is pretty serious stuff. I enjoyed myself a great deal and since it was only a 4 hour train ride away, it wasn't so bad.
In short, if the festival is close by, then yeah, I would go to it but I am not going to drive 6+ hours to go to one unless I am bringing along a big group of friends and we are staying for a weekend or so.

Great venue to pick up fat chicks with really white skin who like drinking. I've gone twice to one of these fests and had amazing beer fueled mayhem enjoyment.

I don't mind a bit of fat, but for the most part I don't usually find overweight women attractive.

Never write off fat chicks, dude. They can be pretty nasty and a lot of fun. I wouldn't marry one, but I'd definitely go to a Renaissance fair with a couple hundred bucks, my drinking shoes, and an open mind.

I dont know if I can make it to Texas Ren Fest this year though. Im pretty sure I will hit Bristol in Wisconson though.

I may have wondered into one by accident once...
I had no idea what was going on at the time.

My Dad's friend has a hand in running a good few Celtic festivals so I tend to get strung into getting involved in them whenever he shows up at our door. There good for a laugh and meeting guys with big stragly beards in kilts (Clanadonia ^^), though not so much ginger lasses in skirts however. Its all just an exscuse for a day of offhandedly insulting people in gaelic and getting pissed I think...or is that just what happens when these things are held in Scotland?.

This is time honored Frazzled tradition to take the kids to it every 2-3 years. I tend to get nicely buzzed on mead and spend lots of money on wife/kids. They have a new one we went to this year with GC. She and a friend loved it.

There's other countries that were involved in the renaissance besides England.

What? Surely you must be kidding.
The PA Fair here focuses mostly on poorly interpreted English history with the free mixing and mashing of historical events/time periods and really crappy accents, complete with a visit by Queen Elizabeth herself, all powdery faced and red haired. And turkey legs, of course.

We have Spanish royalty here as well, and of course French knights who get the crap kicked out of them. But yea mostly English, although I don't think Queen Mary munched on nachos with jalapeno queso.

The one here changes themes every week or so. One day is traditional English and French, next Celtic, and there's usually an Imperial era pirate themed one. Good fun all and all. Love using the bow and shooting the bear cutout in front of a certain Russian whom I no longer like. Reason enough to pay an extra couple of bucks and shoot it a few more times.
