Alright, here is my imperial guard 1500 point army that I'll probably be using. Would like any help/ideas of what to change in it or whatever.

Troops

Veterans with vox caster, sniper rifle, grenade launcher and lascannon team 105

Veterans with vox caster, power weapon, heavy flamer, forward scouts and autocannon 145

Veterans with vox caster, plasma pistol, plasma gun, melta gun, grenade launcher, demolitions, missile launcher 155

Heavy Support

Leman Russ Demolisher with side multimeltas, heavy bolter, heavy stubber, dozer blade and hunter killer missile 230

Leman Russ Battle Tank with side plasma cannons, lascannon, heavy stubber, dozer blade and hunter killer missile 240

Basilisk 125

Fast attack

Any help or ideas would be much appreciated!

Sorry, but this may sound a bit negative:

Not keen on CCS load out - power fist? you don't want them in CC. Medpack overpriced as is standard for what it does. Just give them special weapons. Vox? Still on the fence on this one.

Footslogging vets and mixed weaponry - give them the same weapons and if going for vets I prefer them in chimeras as 10 are too squshy. If you want foot IG then go for a blob platoon instead.

Those tanks are ridiculously expensive. You could trim them down and get another valkyrie/vendetta instead of the sentinel quite easily.

Single sentinel seems a bit of an afterthought in this list.

That is what I need! I don't care that it may sound negative, so what? Thank you for telling me, and if you do know, what should I be doing?

I should also note that this is my first time playing 40K, and Warhammer in general for a looong time. So I probably have no idea what I am doing.

The problem you've got it mixed up wargear which is bad synergy.

Firstly all your dudes on foot are going to get wasted quickly because they are T3 5+ armour save and only 35 of them which 30 is troops so you haven't got enough troops. Easy fix is either give them Chimeras which makes a typical mech force or get Platoons and make it a foot force.

Now your wargear which is the main problem as it is all over the place in every unit. What you need to do with CCS and Veteran units is just give them a single special weapon and stick with it and that's it.

Your tanks have way too much stuff on adding about 100 points extra of rubbish onto them. Just take the tank on its own.

Btw - you'll find heavy flamers rule on all tank hulls

Take double or even triple Vendettas you need the ranged fire power for when your troops advance.

That does sound better. So only use a specific special weapon for each squad? And yeah, some of the stuff on the tanks (dozer blades for instance) can be tossed out.

I'll try and update this then.

Yeah like all plasma or melta guns. Don't bother with flamers they are rubbish use the range which suits Guard better and they have flamers on the tanks for free anyway.

Mercer is giving you good advice, though if I put Heavy flamers on vehicles, I put them on assaulting Chimeras. If the Chimera is sitting back, Heavy Bolters work better. For a Russ, they move so slow that I wouldn't put flamers on them and use Heavy Bolters or Lascannons, depending on the role of the Russ.

The real key is to figure out how you want to fight with Guard, then build an army to help you do that. Then make sure you go over the rules concerning how you want to carry out the tactics your using and the units themselves.

From what it looks like to me, you want to make a more static list where you draw the enemy to you instead of going out to meet them. The general term for this is gunline.

Consider the following as an example build loosily based off of your list. The main tactic is to sit back and fire on the enemy, controling any home objectives with Vets. Vendettas carries a troop selection to contest objectives. The use of Orders is a heavy aspect of this list.

CCS - 265pts
Creed
Regimental Standard
Vox
2x Meltaguns
Master of Ordnance
Chimera (ML, Hull HB)

Vets - 160pts
3x Plasmaguns
Auto-Cannon
Vox
Sentries

Vets - 160pts
3x Plasmaguns
Auto-Cannon
Vox
Sentries

PCS - 45pts (Mounted in a Vendetta)
3x Flamers

PIS - 140pts (blobed)
Commissar
2x Power weapons
Plasmagun
Auto-Cannon
Krak Grenades

PIS - 90pts (blobed)
Power weapon
Plasmagun
Auto-Cannon
Vox

SWS - 50pts (Mounted in a Vendetta)
3x Flamers

Vendetta - 130pts

Vendetta - 130pts

Leman Russ Demolisher - 165pts
