Subject: Problems with Custom Decals

I've been having issues with using Testors' decal sheets. I printed off some custom craftworld runes for my eldar, on a Lexmar X2500 home printer. The ink on the sheet smears very easily, and as soon as the decal touches water, the black ink comes off with it and ruins the decal. Any suggestions on how to deal with this?

Have you contacted the Testors company? That sounds like something they should know right off the bat.

Poor orks... Why can't they be the good guys for once?
All they've ever really wanted is whatever you have...

Oooh. That stuff looks interesting, must give that a go.
You can get away with Klear / Future or another acrylic varnish too, but YMMV.

I'm probably going to stick with the spray kind. That way I get a super-thin coat that works alongside my decal application fluid (which reconstitutes the decal film, making it less rigid and easier to remove air bubbles). I also don't know if brush-application varnishes would also mar the ink.

Depends on the varnish and the type of ink, and how quick it dries. I've had decals printed on ALPS sealed with brushed varnish, but ALPS is a sublimation printer. I usually airbrush Klear - 3 or 4 thin coats that dry very quickly. That doesn't shift the ink. But word to the wise - Klear is eroded VERY quickly by setting solutions.
