Ahh, it's Saturday, I'm now legal kinda.
I picked up my
FC Emperor's Champion today, and it looks pretty amazing. I have no complaints on the quality or the switch from metal to resin in general. For this particular model the msrp went from 15 USD to 15.25 so the price was a non issue(People purchasing Canis Wolf may not be as happy as he went from 41 USD to 51).
What I really dislike about Fine Cast is the release timing. I feel that both customers and retailers could have been better prepared. About a month ago
GW puts a freeze on all metal models, in the form of restrictions on orders and price floors for retailers which puts many models on "No Discount" lists for a lot of retailers with reward programs. They gave little explanation on this which led to rampant speculation from both parties. I personally had no idea to what was occuring as they have been consistently releasing new metal models this year in
BA,
DE, and
GK( I think the last release was Castellan Crowe in mid-April for
40k).
In short on my end as a customer:
I have a bunch of very recent metal models that I wish were resin. Did they honestly just decided to do Fine Cast in May?
Retailers:
Stuck with a bunch of metal models that have virtually no profit margin to move. Most of the resin models are only slightly more expensive yet higher quality, but nearly every shop I have visted offers some type of discount program that can be applied to these.
I can't really come to a conclusion on the Fine Cast story. It just seems like rather poor business practice on an ethical level.
