Lesser Daemon of Chaos
The deck of the Widower
|
Hi all. I am planning out my Legion purchases and have settled on 3 casters; eThagrosh, Absylonia, and Bethayne. What I want to know is, do these casters share many units, solos, and beasts; or do they all play differently enough to need vastly different things? I won't have a ton of funds and would like to keep what I get to a 35 point list with perhaps a few things to switch out besides casters. I have read that eThagrosh and Absylonia are really good with a beast heavy list and would like to play that. As for Bethayne, I like her fluff and how she "wears" her special beast but have no idea what her list would look like. Thanks in advance for your help with model advice! Automatically Appended Next Post: I did some further reading and found someone that said Bethayne is better to use with infantry. Is that correct? If so, I may wait and just get her model later (when i get their cavalry, those armored elk look awesome!) and focus on the beasts with eThagrosh and Absylonia. I also found this list from another Dakka poster:
eThagrosh
Carnivean
Carnivean
Typhon
Forsaken
Shepard
Shepard
Would this be a good place to start? Would Absylonia like this too or does she want something different?

That is a decent list, I wouldn't get two carniveans at first though. They are really expensive beasts pointwise and you could replace one with another heavy from Legion.
You also need a lesser warbeast for eThag that is spawned from him when the first big hit strikes him.

Why not two Carniveans? What else should I get for a heavy and what lesser beast should I go for? I'm wanting to just have the one 35 point list at the moment and will expand later as I can. This list works out to just over 200 bucks which seems very reasonable to me

would this be better then?
eThagrosh
Shredder
Carnivean
Scythean
Typhon
Shepherd
Shepherd
Forsaken
This gives me an extra little beast as well to meet the suggestion from Metsuri. I think i like this list's looks better, more beasts and variety.

Only thing I would say is you have no screen, get ten legionares in there and put dragons blood on em, great little speed bump and it cheap
That will give you more than enough time to set up nasty charge lanes with you line of beasts behind them.
Maybe also look at strider deathstalker solos, they are a steal for 2 points. I alwasy take two, they blow through little single wound guys a turn
And you get to laugh when it can see the Officer and Standard because it can kill both in one turn (and normally that alone will earn its points back.)

No screen? How is a unit of small based models going to screen eThagrosh's huge base from anything? Besides, they aren't beasts or help buff beasts so they don't fit what I want. I'll get the units for when I make my Bethayne list in the future. Thanks for the suggestion though.

You don't need any screen as they don't block line of sight and don't fit to the theme of the list. Some shooting units would fit the list to provide a bit of ranged element, but you can do without.
What I meant with not running two carnivean at that point cost is that in WM/ hordes the models have abilities which complement each other. It is usually best not to spam single model type, but to include several of the same category to get more abilities on the table. A scythean as proposed gives you nice CC abilities, which fit the eThag melee beast list.

The screen is less there to keep models from seeing Thagrosh as to keep them from just doing an end-run around your warbeasts. Blocks of infantry excel at that.

I would suggest swapping out the carni for an angelis with absylonia they wreck face. I would also take a second forsaken apposed to the two shepherds.
That's my two cents. Take it or leave it

I would suggest not taking 2 carnivean
instead take one, the other can be a Scythean/Ravagore, you save one or two point from this, another shepherd maybe?
Or hell instead take 2 Scytheans instead, you save 4 points there , which mean you can now buy roadblock infantry
Bethayne would mean loading up on MAGIC and Infantry, as her feat boost that, kinda like Rahn's. Her spell also do infantry better

Thanks for the help all! It sounds like in addition to the second eThagrosh list I posted above, I need to get a second Forsaken to swap out for the two shepards to see what I like best. As for Absylonia, She wants the same list with Angelus instead of the Carnivean? Would all those models be fine for the two beast casters I have decided on? The Bethayne list will come later as she wants almost nothing like the beast lists I wanted to play.
