The flavor text of the IG Manticore missle launcher reads as follows:
"It is a long, time-consuiming process to reload a Manticore and for this reason it is rare to field them outside of dedicated artillery regiments. Whilst extremely powerful, the Manticore is also extremely unpredictable. Unless the proper blessings are applied the tempermental machine spirit within each may be offended, leading to the rockets veering from their intended target or failing to detonate. More common is the Manticore's weapon system jamming and rockets being unable to launch. In very rare circumstances it has been known for a Manticore to unintentionally fire its entire rocket payload at once in a spectacuallary devastating colley that annihilates entire armies."
My suggestion is to change the launch procedure for firing the Manticore to fit this description.
To fire the Manticore, roll 2D6 and consult the following table.
2-3 Click! - The Manticore's rockets engage but the release mechanism fails to deploy the rocket! The payload explodes aboard the platform detonating the other rockets in a violent display of destruction. Immediatley place the large blast template over the center of the vehicle and add +D6" to the blast radius. No cover saves allowed!
4-5 Failure to Release - The Manticore's rocket fires but does not deploy its payload at the apex of its launch. Instead of the D3 Large blasts that would normally occur, only one blast is released as the warhead fails to seperate.
6-10 Target Destroyed - The missle fires as planned and detonates as normal.
11-12 Payload Deployed! - In very rare instances, the Manticore will launch all of its' missles in one devastating salvo that obliterates entire enemy ranks and armies. All of the Manticore's Storm Eagle rockets are launched simultanesously! When rolling to determine how many warheads are deployed for each rocket by the D3 roll, add 1 to each roll, maximum of 3 warheads per missle.
These are funny rules I thought of that fits the Manticore's profile. What you guys think?

But who'd want to field something that unreliable? You don't see Deathstrikes in competitive lists for that very reason.

Would be fun to use  . I think it would be cool to add something to the 4 - 5 failure to release. Possibly something like 'as the missile fails to seperate all the power of the warhead is concentrated in one area. The weapon counts is AP as 2.'
(obviously its a single blast as you already said)

Wow, I don't know if I would want to field that. Sure, the potential for destroying everything in one turn is nice, but the possibility of it blowing up in my face makes it sound a little to 'orky'. Maybe have it jam instead of detonating on the pad, losing the rocket shot but not destroying itself.

I like it for fluff, but don't necessarily like how it makes one of the best units in my codex a lot worse. I'd be willing to try it for fluff alone....
Maybe we can balance this unreliability by giving Storm Eagles AP3....

Yea I agree that it would make it fun but then make it as risky as the Deathstrike missile
I would not like it when all my rockets attack only one trygon while theres two others ravaging my lines
