Bounding Ultramarine Assault Trooper

My self and a few others are trying to get a Necromunda Campaign started, and I wanted to bounce a few ideas around and see what any veteran Necro players here thought of them.

Our group is a lot of long time gamers, on average most of us have been gaming for at least 10 years, and the games and miniatures we have cover nearly anything on the market today. We are "going oldschool" by revisiting our common GW roots and getting a Necromunda campaign going. The big draw is that all the Necromunda rules are online, and this give many of us the chance to dive into our bits boxes and make some conversions. We've changed the gang creation rules somewhat to draw in more players.

First off, we are letting people use miniatures from any source, so long as they are the right scale. So, while a lot of players will use modified older GW figs, some are going for completely different sources and we are not limiting people to making their gangs exactly match the existing ones. Instead, players need to choose the best gang that would fit.

Here's the big one: We are allowing players to purchase equipment off the equipment lists that you would normally have to trade and scavenge for, but only when the gang is initially created or a new ganger is hired.

We are doing this to increase the number of players becuase doing this allows them to field gangs that are more interesting to them, or so they can use minis they already have without having to buy more. For example: Someone could take a small squad of Howling Banshees as their "gang", using the Escher gang as a base for skill, and right from the get-go all their gangers could start equipped with armor, power swords, and bolt pistols, making them more Banshee-eqsue. In a similar way, our local TAU player can field a TAU squad (Von Saars). They use the existing rules to make a "best fit" for their models.

Models must still be WYSIWYG as possible and follow normal GW model patterns for weapons. That means that if someone is using wild-west figures for the basis of his models and all his six-shooters are count-as auto-pistols, then he can't call an identical pistol on the gang leader a Bolt Pistol. He'd have to model it as some appropriately large handgun to differentiate it.

We're hoping this has the effect of attracting more players becuase they will be able to use fewer models (since they will have more expensive kit) with a minimum need to do conversions.

You can't fix stupid.
