I've just realised after building about 15 heavy weapons teams that you never get an option to make a left handed guardsmen. And thinking about it I don't think you can make left handed anything (i've never seen a Space Marine with his weapon in his left hand).

So what do you think would happen if you were left handed in the year 40,000? Would you be branded a mutant or a heretic? I could imagine something like all psykers being left handed and everything is one big conspiracy against making the human race perfect. Left handed people are branded mutants and killed or are sacrificed at the golder throne to maintain the emperors light.

What do you think about there being no left handed people? What happened to them all? I think its all one big conspiracy and the Emperor was actually left handed!

I wondered that to, but then i converted some of my marines to be left handed.

If there was an option for left handed guardsmen, at least one in every 5 guardsmen would be left handed. And that's terrible.


In 40k there is no significance attached with being left handed.

Im feeling discriminated because Im left handed.

Thats what I thought. I paint darker skinned Guardsmen and covert them to be left handed just to prevent this discrimination. (next I need some female guardsmen).

Probably because it's easier to have the entire kit be righties when it's being made/molded or whatevers.

In DH book roughly 1/10 people are left handed and it has no significance to anything. (Except one-off worlds.) So no imperium wide beliefs about being lefty.

There are dozens of Lefties threads featuring dozens of GW Lefties miniatures. Just have a search.

Aha! you think that only happens in 40k :'P it happened to me.

Im naturally left handed but my school teacher forced me to use my right hand. So now im ambidextrous, its funny to write a paper with 2 hands at the same time lol ( but hands get smudged sometimes )

honestly , i just think the sculptors dont know how to sculpt left handed poses ( just like most people get confused if you tell them to use their other hand ) or kick with other leg etc etc

Thats quite a skill!

I do think that may be why, that the sculptors are comfused making left handed people. Maybe ill email the HQ and say they should add some lefty miniatures, its not different to adding differet heads or posed legs to the sprues

I have it, Ill make an entire black/female/left handed army or guardsmen!

Its especially fun in sports like: Tennis , ping pong , badminton , softball ( if im pitching ) it confuses the opponent to death when i keep switching hands :3

By the end of that school day, though its weird, when write with different hands , the way i write the letters are different
for example for 0 right hand i start loop from top, but with left hand i start on bottom. I dunno why

With 40k its probably because the modern day military does not accomodate for left handers.

I was a sergeant in the CCF for a while, training new recruits to use rifles. For a while the lefties attempted to use their left hands. This doesn't work because the ejection slot would throw hot casings into your face. There were many complaints about how it was 'unfair' and they couldn't possibly hold the rifle the way it was intended. Until I pointed out that I was left handed, and managed just fine.

Whilst lasguns don't have an ejection slot, I'd imagine the practice would remain the same. As for viewing it as a mutation, I doubt it. If Ogryns and Ratlings are tolerated, I think left-handers would be too.

I wasnt born in N.America , and considering we get hit with broken chair legs , i think changing my writing hand is insignificant to them -_-

It's military training, the codex astartes will have something to say about the way you hold you bolter and I'm sure there will be a similar rule for training guardsmen.

Thats a mental way of doing things but I suppose it worked, its quite a skill you now have. You could paint 2 models at once bring on the horde!!

Doesn't make sense for:
Guard - lasguns are basically flashlights and have no ejection slot
Tau - Plasma weapons eject no used cartridges (i suppose they may get hot so coudl explain it for tau)
Eldar - Eldar weapons fire energy things and don't discharge used bullets like human weapons.
Dark Eldar - Same as eldar

Makes sense for:
Space Marines - Have an ejection slot where casings are thrown out of
Chaos - Same as above
Orks - They use imperial weapons which have to eject casings
Necrons - The weapons are fused to the right arm anyway and as necrons we all manfuactured and placed inside the same robot bodies I will admit they must all be left handed.

Not so sure about:
Tyranids - They have to many arms to care and are able to shoot with either left right or all 4 at once.
Kroot/Vespid - I think they are energy weapons so would have to ejection slot but I don't know what arm the models have the weapons in anyway.


Basically the explanation explains it for some races but not all. Does anyone know it guardsmen are left handed in any of the books?

Has nobody even glanced at space marine assault marines (or any marine outfitted with a BP and CCW)? In my squads at least half of them have the pistol in their left hand.

My wife is left handed, and was made to learn to write with her right hand. She uses the computer mouse with her right hand now.

I am right handed, and swapped to using the mouse with my left hand 20 years ago.

Luckily we have a wireless mouse.

CCF... the cadet force? A poorly equipped, poorly trained youth organization?

This certainly isn't true of the US Military. Many military organizations in the U.S. go out of their way to get ambidextrous weapons (the FN SCAR series is very indicative of this), and the M16 can also be easily modified to be ambidextrous. If "CCF" means what I think it does, then the reason you had that problem is because you used little bullpup trainwreck called the SA80 / L98A2.

Also noticed, mouse i use right hand mostly since i cant move it around the table.
But laptop touch pad i use left hand, dunno why either...

Most left-handers become partially ambidextrous anyway (like myself). But the main thing is that with sprues the main body and arms are most easily made if they are standardized to one format (either left or right handed)

But as it is believed that left-handers make up 10% of the population GW already have roughly the level of left handed figures to be -non-discriminatory

It's more likely that no-one at GW HQ has ever given thought to discrimination in toy soldiers.

This isn't necessarily malicious. It's possible that GW didn't happen to have any left handed sculptors on staff when they made a lot of their models. The majority population is often more or less ignorant of the existence of the minority population and simply doesn't think to include it in any plans.

We still see the same thing with provision for colours suitable for colour-blind people to view in games and web sites.
