Since Gw never released a phoenixlord for the aspect of the warp spiders, I decided to have a go with it.

Basic phoenixlord statline: Ws7 Bs7 S4 T4 W3 I7 A4 Ld10 2+ save

Special rules: independent character, fleet of foot, fearless, eternal warrior, disciples (warp spiders)

Wargear: Warp Jump Generator, Power Blades, Death Weaver.

Death Weaver is an ancient deathspinner. It fires in one of two modes:

1. Range: Flamer template S6 Ap- rending, pinning assault 1

2. Range: 18" S6 Ap- rending, pinning assault 4

The warp spider phoenix lord comes with both: Suprise assault and Withdraw.

Master of the warp: The phoenixlord and his squad may reroll the roll for the warpjump distance, when using their warp jump generators and they never take casualtys from rolling doubles.

Points cost: somewhat around 210-220 ?

Please tell me what you think guys

Give him a 4+ invulnerable save or some form of invulnerable; the old Phoenix Lords suffer from the lack of one currently and would not doubt have one if they were designed more recently.

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.

Yeah, sure the phoenixlords lack an invul save, but I wanted one of the old format...

If they are to be remade any time soon (which i doubt) they will get one for sure, but for now only asurmen has one. Every other phoenixlord has a cool special rule. In this case it´s the master of the warp rule.

The lack of Invul is the exact reason why PLs don't get used. The special rules are okay, but when it comes down to it, any squad with a powerfist sergeant could smash the lords into the ground, as could anything AP1/2.

For now, his lack of I save makes him underpowered.

I like the character. And he would easily fit in with the other phoenix lords

"Innocence Proves Nothing... Except That You've Done Nothing Wrong"

Welcome to the Daemonhunters, the ranks of the exalted Ordo Malleus and their cannon fod....er, I mean, loyal allies. Remember...the only ones who need fear the righteous might of the Ordo Malleus are the Daemonic.

quote: Dashofpepper: ...sad rivulet of demon prince tears. He ponders for a moment, then lashes the demon hunters into him. He assaults them, kills a terminator or two....and then demon hunters being demon hunters....they proceed to wtfpwn him. Second player leaves the table...

I DO understand, that the invul lack is really what keeps the use of the phoenixlords so rare... Maybe I should give him one afterall... But then he won´t fit into the existing ones that well...

Make one similar to the current PL:s, and one that could be a scheme for how PL:s should be?

Also, an idea for a name I had when thinking about WS:s lord: Ifefari, which means the Watcher in the Void.

I somewhat disagree. I think the main reason PLs don't get used is because they're not Farseers.

So we're ignoring the fact that the phoenix lords are all around 200 points, and don't even add to the flavor of their aspect (In most cases. Jain Zar does well with banshees... but still not worth it)?

Overall this guy sounds good. I would probably remove the template option from his gun, as it really doesn't make sense to me fluff wise. Also, as others have said, give him in invuln. If you don't then lower his cost. I'd say about 30 - 50 points sounds about right.

The template option is just there to make hin a little different... If we look at it from a fluff perspective, the S6 on the deathspinners doesn´t make sense eighter, since they shoot a web like thingy which cuts apart enemys while beeing dragged down by gravity.

The invunrable save thing might be true... I´ll redo him once I find some time any suggestions?

I have always felt rending would best simulate the "tearing" of the spinners. You included that, so I personally was satisfied. But everyone has their own interpretation

Honestly, other than adding in the invuln save, I'd use the guy. Could you imagine having this dude warping around the board? Use him to counter charge too, with I7 W7 amd S4 power weapons (and 6 attacks on the charge) he'd deliver quite the punch, especially given the spiders shooting before the charge.

Allright guys I kinda rethought the phoenixlord. This is my second attempt

Ws7 Bs7 S4 T4 W3 I7 A4 Ld10 2+/4+ save (yes I included the invul save this time)

Wargear: Warp Jump Generator, Powerblades, Death Weaver

Special rules: Independent character, Fleet of Foot, Fearless, Eternal warrior, Disciples (warp spiders)

Death Weaver: fires in one of two modes:

1.) Range: 18" S6 Ap- rending, pinning Assault 4

2.) Range 18" S4 Ap- rending, 3inch blast, entangeling web Assault 1

Master of the warp: The phoenixlord and his squad may reroll the roll for the jump distance if using their Warp Jump Generators and never take casualtys for rolling doubles.

Entangeling Web: A squad shot at by this weapon counts as being in difficult and dangerous terrain for the next movement phase.

points cost: arround 215 points

I hope, that the addition of an invun save is apriciated. The flamer mode was removed, in order to get a fireing mode that works like the doomweaver of the nightspinner tank.

any thoughts?

I really like it. Just make sure to clarify that the entangling web is for the blast only, else you would never choose the blast over the 4 shots.

Cheers!

Yeah the entangeling web is obvioously only for the blast mode. Otherwise it would be quite useless indeed...

Why not just go for the Monofilament rule from the Night Spinner?
Why? Because the Monofilament rule isn't limited to the next movement phase, it says "next time the unit moves", which means your opponent will either not move at all (unless it's a heavy weapons squad, not moving is definitely a bad idea) or suffer from dangerous terrain on one move, and you can of course always blast him again... oh the glory.

Monofilament has the risk of not doing anything considerable, on the opponent's choice, but sometimes merely the threat of destruction can give you a tactical advantage - which is decidedly more in keeping with the Eldar spirit. Oh, the shadow play.

I really need to stay away from the 40K forums.

AND no matter what your opponent chooses to do, you can say: Just as planned.
Besides... if the web-effect only lasts your opponent's next movement phase, you have the same problem, he can simply choose not to move - and then the next turn, no consequence of moving at all.

Allright let`s swap the entangeling web for the monofilament rules just to make you guys happy =)
