Me and my friends will be playing a Cities of Death game and here is my list to try and face them. It will be a free-for-all, annihilation game and I will be facing Necrons, Orks, Tau and another Eldar army. The Necrons will be built around the battleforce and a Destroyer Lord, the Orks will be a biker Mob, the Tau infantry heavy with a few tanks and the Eldar won't be a problem as he has only just started the hobby and hasn't got a grasp of the game/rules yet. I normally play Imperial Guard, so I am not very experianced at Eldar.

HQ
Avatar 155

I have decided to take this as I love the new Finecast model and also he could act as a counter assault unit, or to suprise the enemy from round the corner of a building.

Farseer 143/133
Singing Spear
Spirit Stones
Doom
Fortune/Guide

I added this to my force to provide some anti-tank for transports or nearby tanks, but I have mainly added it to provide my army some support. Which would be more useful Fortune or Guide?

ELITES
10 Howling Banshees 287
Exarch
Executioner
War Shout
Wave Serpent
Twin-linked Shuriken Cannons

Is this too many? Or would Striking Scorpians suit going round and killing weaker spots or needed parts of other armies as they can have move through cover? These would be used to go and kill needed or stray parts of other armies and the Wave Serpent would block them from being counter-assaulted or shot at when they have defeated their enemies in combat. I don't want to take Fire Dragons as they wouldn't be needed as they're may be a few armour 10s, but the Tau's vehicles could be tooken from long range,as they will have a lot of anti-tank meaning when the Fire Dragons get close they won't be able to take their points worth before they die.

TROOPS
5 Pathfinders 120

5 Pathfinder 120

As there is alot of cover in Cities of Death, they will be able to hide with a 2+/3+ cover save and could take down the toughness 5 Ork bikers and destroyers.

Heavy Support
Fire Prism 115

Long-range anti-infantry and anti-tank, no saves for the Orks, the Dire Avengers (the other Eldar player will be very likely take them)and the Tau's Fire Warriors. It could also hold it's ground as there won't be much anti-tank and it can act as a great tank-buster against armour 12/13.

I have 70 points left, I am looking for criticisms and points on how I could improve it, please.

Thanks

I've never played cities of death so can't help with the specifics... however what are you planning on doing with your Farseer? that will go a long way in helping you decide between guide/ fortune! Also ask your self if you need a second power once you add on spirit stones to cast two a turn then the cost starts mounting up! if you only take one make it Doom!

10 Banshee's is not too many in my book as it allows them to take some loses and remain effective, the choice between scorpion's and banshee's is a tough one given the armies you'll be facing.. I'd lean towards Banshee's to negate the Necrons WBB how ever the scorpions should do just as well against Marines and excel against Orks (where the Banshee's will struggle).

I wouldn't take two squads of pathfinders, firstly in city fight I'd assume your opponents will be equipped to flush troops out of cover with flamers and the like, removing them will give you 310 points to spend on alternative troops... Dire Avengers would be a good choice as their armour save will hold up against standard flamers.

I'm not sure about a Fire Prism for cities of death either... most things will get a cover save so it's effectivness is lessened there and I'd imagine that your feilds of fire will be limited. Perhaps change it to a D Cannon support team or a Nightspinner both are barrage and don't require line of sight (I'd lean towards the Nightspinner due to area terrain and the large blast, also it forces dangerous terrain very nasty for Orks!)

instead of the banshees and wave serpent use harlequins they are the best close combat units especially in closs city type battles plus get rid of avatar. brilliant in combat but slow and can be seen easily. id gor for prince yriel instead

Automatically Appended Next Post:
also change the fire prism to a night spinner for that large blast and making anything it shoots at take a dangerous terrain test. then give it all upgrades apart from star engines
it needs all the survival kit it can get.

Good call on the Harlequins! Not so sure on Yriel though he'd slow the Harlequins up since he hasn't got a flip belt, and I don't see what unit he could join in this list...

Ok, thankyou. I think a Night Spinner would be great. I've not really looked into Harlequins what upgrades are good for them?

power weapons. even though people keep saying harlequins kisses are beteer they arent. kiss=rending. power sword = no armour saves whatsoever. Also upgrade one of the harlequins to a shadowseer to keep your squad safe at all times

Ok, thankyou... again. Is there any point in taking Fusion Pistols? Should I upgrade all the normal Harlequins to have Kisses?
Sorry for all the questions, it's just I would like to have a good list as two of my friends are quite experianced. :S

give every harlequin power swords including the troupe master. only give 1 the fusion pistol it only takes one to take down a tank. no harlequins kisses they arent worth it. plus you must take a shadowseer or else they will be cut down by bullets before they get close

You cant give all harlequins power weapons? O.o AFAIK its kisses or basic CC weapons and the troupe master gets a power sword for free.

Not sure about the shadowseer upgrade for the harlies, at least in CoD, there should be enough cover on the table to keep them with a solid cover save or out of LoS, though it will depend on the terrain, if the board has some open lanes youll have to cross then go for it.

And seconded on the nightspinner, though it will scatter more when shot at stuff out of LoS, it is twin linked, and eliminates cover saves unless the target is in area terrain. The difficult and dangerous terrain tests are awesome especially since you really only need to clip one model to make the whole unit test, and it compounds with the eldar list's mobility available.

in terms of the shadowseer its because although he will get cover saves against most enemies its better that the enemy cant hit him at all wouldnt you say?

yes, it is better to not be seen, but i suppose it comes down to personal preference. as for myself, id leave it out in a CoD game, for both the hope that i could keep them out of LoS to start with until im ready to use them, but also in CoD boards the range that youre being shot at from most times may be within the sight range that the veil power creates (terrain of course being the deciding factor). As i said it really depends on the terrain, if most angles people are going to be able to shoot at you from provide less than 24" range it may be better to save the points and take 2 more harlies rather than buy the upgrade that may not end up hiding you.

When it comes down to it, id suggest finding out how much real LoS blocking terrain youll be playing with and making the decision then.

Thanks for the responses. I think I will take a Shadowseer, as it provides the unit some defense, if I'm out of cover, from consolidating or a bad move. Also as I am against shooty armies if they fail to see them then their shots are wasted.
