So I'm currently building and painting my own custom chapter vanilla marines force, and I want to add TH/SS termies. Problem is, I kinda don't like how the TH/SS termies look like, so I was thinking how about I use GK Terminators instead? I'm fond of converting the gak out of everything and kitbashing, so I'm planning on shaving a part of the storm bolters and add my scratch-build shields. I'm planning on mixing parts from other kits as well.

I'm just wondering if this would fly for other people because I'm planning on keeping some of the emblems since it fits the image of my chapter. See, my marines are based on the original Templars (the real ones, not the 40k ones), so everything is Catholic-y. Fluffwise, can I just say that they're part of the Inquisition but integrated to this chapter (sort of like Death Watch with its different chapters fighting as one)?

And modelling-wise, how many hammers are there in the GK termies box? If there aren't enough are there any weapons inside that can count as thunderhammers in-game?

Violence is not the answer, but it's always a good guess.

Well I know that a normal Termy box comes with 5 hammers and 5 shields. IDK about the GK box.

But if you run out of hammers check these out:

The GK terminator box has 1 hammer and zero shields.

Your "best" bet is to buy the weapons from an assault terminator box, and buy the bodies from a GK terminator box.

It should be about $30 to order legs, bodies, heads, and shoulder pads from battlewagon bits,
http://www.thewarstore.com/greyknightterminatorbits.html

and $35 to order 5 sets of thunder hammer+storm shield, or $38 if you want one of them to be the larger sergeant hammer+shield.
http://www.thewarstore.com/SpaceMarineCombatTerminatorBits.html

A total of $68 isn't terrible. If you want the forgeworld templar storm shields they are $14 plus shipping, and you would want to order the hammers separately from shields because it is way cheaper that way.

Using eBay listings like
http://cgi.ebay.com/Space-Marine-Terminator-THUNDER-HAMMER-B-BITS-40k-/250826445765?pt=UK_Toys_Wargames_RL&hash=item3a666bd3c5
http://cgi.ebay.com/Terminator-Thunder-Hammer-C-/280683998643?pt=UK_Toys_Wargames_RL&hash=item415a11edb3

You can get 5 hammers for $10, or $13 with shipping.

Thus, the total would be $30 + ~$17 + $13. A total of $60 for grey knight body terminators with forgeworld templar shields and thunderhammers. Honestly, a pretty good deal if you ask me.

If you want to do it, then go for it, don't let any TFGs stop you, and you only get 1 Nemesis Hammer in the GK box.

Well I already made shields so that wouldn't be a problem. They're large, kite shields. Also wondering if it would look cool with the swords (counts as thunderhammers?).

Violence is not the answer, but it's always a good guess.

Go for it. I made some Knights of Blood (Blood Angels) terminators from some grey knight terminators myself. I bought a box of the grey knights and a box of assault terminators. I had just enough THs and SSs to go on the grey knights and lightning claws for the others.

Don't do swords as hammers.
