Not had a chance to strip my OOP Necrons and make a start on those but I've been green stuffing and painting up some bases ready:

The first one shown by yourself looks like a really good rough wooden board/bark sort of thing, even if you were going for mud.

Nice bases. They'd be great for tyranid too. Looks like the sand/mud stuff has a mind of its own and is trying to capture the unwary!

Nids? I've looked at them and thought the same, so often that I've actually considered buying a set of stealers to have a go at a small nid diorama!

The effect I was going for was ancient desert scape.
