Ouch on that SG deep strike, I am not sure if that is worth it given the best he can do with all of his shooting is Glance a SG. It also would have been especially safe from enemy units with all the los blocking terrain.

Nice report though, what is your reasoning for the two SG's and the single DP rather than 3 DP like many people run?

I have been using grinders over prince's for some time because they added something the army was lacking IMHO. They are immune to mass small arms fire which demons don't really like mass small arms lol. They bring long range shooting and they are fast. I really like being mobile and being able to react as needed on the board. I dropped a third grinder because it just wasn't needed unless you are running them for rail shots which I stopped doing a long time ago. Grinders are kind of jack of all trades units and a great distraction just like another dread. They belong in hth most the time but alas aren't great at hth either with a sad init and sad WS. =/ They do absorb far more firepower than you would ever think looking at them on paper though. Plus that Str 10 in hth really helps instant kill units while giving me one more thing to deal with LR's. Mine had been a modelling project to practice some green stuff too so honestly no matter how bad I would have ran them awhile. lol.

Its funny you would ask but after running them for so long and learning how to make them as much a threat as possible I will honestly be dropping them for the princes. The princes are more reliable game by game and in a tourney situation that is needed. They also have a smaller DS footprint and are solid in combat with a high weapon skill and they hit on a 2plus with shooting which would have made a huge difference in my games. They aren't as mobile since they lack fleet but I am tweaking my entire list a bit so well see how it goes. I learned a ton between this tourney and adepti and game two and three of this event really drives home the changes I want to make. =)

I originally ran a pair of Tzeetch DP as well in my Daemons list and I ended up going with the same loadout you have here (2 grinders, 1 DP) and I really like the grinders. I agree with you that they end up being much more durable than most people think and having S10 can be really useful in a lot of games.

Since the thing they really fear are Power Fists and they go at initiative 1 anyway.

I actually do run the Railgun on mine (vs AV 11 hit 4+/pen 2+ == hit 2+/pen 4+) but I also have less shooting overall in my list than you.

Dark Eldar actually helped turn me to more SG, although they have lance, they also have so many poison shots it makes keeping a MC alive really tough.

I almost always go Princes over Grinders for the reasons already mentioned.

@calypso2ts I can see why you would want some units that draw more fire and are harder to torrent down given the rest of your list. I am going off of what was posted on your blog and your army is very glass hammer since you have so many neshy units. =) So again I can see how having the grinders can help balance you out. With my army at this point the majority of it is really hard to kill so I think I can give up the durability for more reliable killy at this point and really help out. I am going to add more screamers too which is a little lol. I know the nets hate them but over all I am really happy with them as a unit and they also help balance issues the army has. (Also I am following your blog now gotta support a fellow demon player =P )

@Krisken I think it depends on the rest of your army what you run. I have also seen lists that the nurgle DP seems to make more sense and helps fill gaps too. But over all in most cases I would say princes are taken over grinders. they are prob just a more solid choice most games if nothing else for the smaller DS footprint.
