Hi guys,

I'm currently working my way through painting a large imperial fists force. I've been basecoating with Iyanden darksun and it's been a godsend for working on a black primer. I've got round to my vehicles though, and these are not only taking AGES with a pot of paint and a brush, but its taking several coats before I get the required coverage and get rid of any brushmarks. Does nayone know if there are any sprays out there that are a fairly close match for Iyanden Darksun - stuff from vallejo, army painter etc? Thanks in advance!

Montana Gold do a quite a large range. Or you could try an airbrush, the GW one or similar should be more then suitable for base coating.

I've been looking for the same thing for ages. The Army Painter one looks far too bright though.

Brighter isn't necessarily a bad thing. Just a bit of Gryphonne Sepia or Badab Black and you get a far more striking yellow.

It's far too bright for imperial fists, I used it on mine and they're just too lemon for my tastes. Imperial fists should be a golden colour imho

That's why you don't just simply spray it and leave it alone. You darken it up with washes or soft/strong shade.

I agree. The strong tone is good looking. I use Quick shade and army painter spray paint and its amazing.

Ideal if I was going for striking, that yellow (even washed) would still be too bright. Iyanden plus black/brown wash then highlight from there, this yellow won't give the same kind of contrasts.

Thanks all. The Army Painter looks good with the strong tone. I've been going Darksun then a Sepia wash, with golden yellow highlights and the strong tone looks like it might produce similar results. I'm going to see if I can get through hand painting a land raider first, if not, then I'll certainly be picking some up to try.

The rarefied atmosphere

you could always try an airbrush.

The USS Orinoco was a Federation Danube-class runabout that was in service with Starfleet in the late 24th century, attached to Deep Space 9. It was outfitted with a sensor pod.

If the Daemonic Yellow is too bright, Army Painter does a Desert Yellow which you could then brighten to taste with highlighting. It's more of a sand color, but it might do ok as base to paint over.

I've had a few bad experiences with the GW spray, and my limited painting skills means that a half decent airbrush would be a bit of a stretch for me.
