So I'm going to pick up AOBR in the next few weeks. I don't fancy painting the marines blue. But I was wondering, is there anything in the AOBR models themselves that I need to watch out for when painting as a different chapter? Any symbols I need to shave off, etc?
Thanks

No, there are no "U"s or anything else that identifies them as being part of one particular chapter. The tactical marines do have moulded "tactical arrows" (the markings that denote them as being part of a tactical squad). No chapter badges or markings at all though.

No, there are no chapter specific markings on any of the models. There is a lot of skull and star iconography, the Captains leg, the Dreadnought's torso are just two locations. I have that set and had no problems turning them into Imperial Fists.

If not for the mediocre who would be great, and thank goodness for those who are just terrible they make even those who are mediocre look great

The basic marines in the AOBR box are simple. The only iconography on them are the "tactical" markings that denote the basic guys as troops. The other shoulder pad is blank so you can put symbols from the transfer sheets onto them.

On the dreadnought, my brother shaved some of the iconography off of the leg because he just didn't like the way it looked.

Good question, but you really have nothing to worry about.

If you want some DA or BT or something, you could just go to the GW site and spend like 40 bucks on a crapton of conversion bitz.
That's what i'm thinking of doing.

Thanks!

Thinking of painting them as Doom Eagles or Marines Exemplar.

Another question... would you be able to add jump pack bits to the AoBR models?

I would advise against trying to turn AoBR marines into assault marines. AoBR marines are very static in weapons and legs pose, while assault marines need pistol+ccw and running legs rather than firing stance legs.

Agreed.

However the terminators can be turned into assault terminators quite easily should you wish to do so.

Yes their back connections are very similar to regular marines... The problem is they don't have any straps modeled on their torso so Jump Packs might look odd (though that never stops Death Company).

A bigger problem would be that the AOBR marines all have bolters, and assault marines aren't allowed generally allowed bolters... Changing the weapons on AOBR marines would probably more work than it was worth.
