I love the idea of putting limbs/creatures/piles-of-gore on my mini's bases. specifically special units who have earned it on the battlefield in an actual game. I've dealt with this a lot, (especially with Reaper mini's, for DnD and other RPG's), but with 40k I want to really get it right with the gore, instead of the usual blood-spatter and pile of blood.

Can someone give me some tips on creating guts and gore for the following races?:

Imperial Guard
Orks
Tyranid
Necron
Chaos Space Marine
Kroot
Tau
Eldar

Thanks in advance

Necrons: guitar string, lots of it in many many guages (also workes for some CSM, Tau vehicles, Some IG etc where mechanichal parts and bionics are concerned)
For CSM, getting your fingerprints onto the green stuff is okay, so long as no clear fingerprint is discernible (adds texture), apart from that though, everyone has intestines, its just different colors and different shapes. See the older tyranid codices which showed them disected.... tau have blue blood....

then again, most necrons phase out with everything so.....

For Entrails, you could take some fishing line or something and wrap it in GS, then coil it up in a wound and paint it a darker color of the blood.
And, for blast wounds (like an MG hit or a grenade) you could... i guess... maybe heat it up with a lighter until it starts melting (cut off to stump, first) and then stretch out the plastic and cut off the excess and paint it red. Maybe a Hot-Glue gun would work well, too.
And, for a gunshot wound to the head, Bore out the exit wound roughly 3 times that of the entry wound.

Just wash it in some red, purple and more intestines like colours.. and there you go.

melta wounds? usually scorched black and melted away.

for flesh, you could just as easilly drill out your guardsman's shoulder, put a little bit of cotton in, and paint that up.

if you locate a clear craft glue that takes around 5min to cure, you could also stain it the appropriate colour for blood and gore.

I prefer to use Tamiya Clear Red and Clear Green to stain it.

Red ink also is good, as when it dries it stays shiny and looks wet.

You'll need a dremel, a cutting wheel, and some extra sprues. Set it to a rather high speed as the point is to melt the plastic as you cut. The plastic will 'bulb' together as it melts, typically clumping on either side of the disk and in the direction the disk spins. The end result looks like a fleshy pulp. Depending on the width of the disk and the amount of plastic being cut, the pulp will very in size. The largest we've gotten, and it took some manipulation, was the size of a marble.

Do or do not, there is no try.

At the moment I'm working on a Genestealer's guts falling out from his abdomen, and an ork's arm (Maybe muscle lopped out, and blood spatter of course.)

I think I'll try the fish wire for blood coming out, then build up glue as I glue it, so it looks as if blood is dripping when i paint it green. Are there any alternative idea's for making/sculpting a pile of guts on the ground? I don't like the idea of guitar strings, as they aren't as flexible at a smaller scale.

As i said, try fishing line wrapped in greenstuff, but if you don't like that, you could try to just roll a log of clay or Greenstuff and shape it.
Maybe use some Hot-Glue and make multiple sized rings and put them in/on eachother and then paint them.

Superglue sprayed into water makes for some good guts too.

guitar strings are good, you just need needle-nose pliers and patience as youre sculpting it. It takes more effort and fixing before you get what you need, but once you finally glue it down, it looks awesome. There are also different guages of string too...

Thanks everybody! This was helpful, any other suggestions on any other type of gore would be much appreciated.

Well, try non traditional shades of blood. Yellowy green for the nids, blue for Eldar, etc.

Hmm... I was using Dark Angel's Green for the Nids, and for the Ork, im using straight Red Gore

Maybe i could try mixing a bit of DA Green with Sunburst Yellow...
