Why didn't the Imperium conquer or colonize that region of space?
It is said that was because Halo Zone is beyond the range of Astronomicon. But Ultramar is also beyond it's range.
Is it because people are afraid of what will they find there or something else?

How is Ultramar beyond the Astronomican?

Ultramar is not beyond the Astronomicon. The Halo Zone is, that's why the Imperium is reluctant to to try.

Astronomicon is 50.000 light years long. Ultramar is further than that. I heard that several times already.

Really? Then you were hearing absolute BS or you're lying to try and make an irrelevant point. Ultramar IS NOT outside the range of the Astronomicon.

Thats assuming that the astronomican is a perfect sphere within real space and that the warp allows this,

Which it isn't, and yet is still covers Ultramar. Assuming we're talking about the region of planets which the Ultramarines rule over, which is Ultramar.

The Halo zone is unexplored because:

1.Outside the astronomicon.

2.It's mostly dead wasteland planets anyway, not worth the trouble.

3. Imperial resources are stretched to defend the territory they have, as it is.

Wrong. Macharius could have, but his soldiers didn't want to travel outside the light of The Astronomicon.

Oh really? I don't remember that, where was it written? I should give it a read. I was going on the fluff from the BRB.

If you have seen a picture on a 2D map it does look like ultramar is further away than halo zone however space is 3D so its hard to determine distances on a 2D map.

There are several relay choirs between Ultramar and Terra.
They help relay the astronomicon further and keep it steady.
The Halo Stars are supposedly haunted... though what died with enough malice and unfinished buisness to haunt that large an area i don't even want to know.

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away...

I remember debating about the range of the astronomican in another thread a while ago.

It is true that if the range of the astronomican was a perfect sphere, ultramar (and most of Ultima Segmentum) would be out of its range. However, the range of the astronomican can be boosted (via astropathic choirs) or limited (by various warp anomalies).

In the case of the Halo zone, which is located in the most distant corners of Segmentum Pacificus, I remember reading about two major warp anomalies located at the entry of the segmentum, thus "veiling" and dimming the light of the astronomican in most of the segmentum behind those two warp storms.

That doesn't really matter as the Milky Way is relatively flat, so the maps we have are still perfectly usable.

Ultramar is futher away from Terra than the Halo zone, but the astronomicon signal travels through the warp and as a medium the warp is very unreliable and inconsitant

I also heard about the use of mini astronomicon stations that are used for the beacon in the warp...
much smaller then Astronomicon but still usable...

They aren't mini astronomicon stations. They are relay stations, they magnify the power of the astronomicon where it is weak or blocked somehow.

its either in the SM codex or in the BRB the silver skulls acctually fight battles int the halo region " im guessing to make way for settlers"

There's nothing much special about the Halo Zone, just at the edge of Western Galactic Space. The south has the Vieled Region, the Northeast the Ghoul Stars, and the East the Eastern Fringe as counterparts.

My guess is it's mostly empty void with some small alien civilizations in it.

I dont have y codex to hand but i thought that the Silver Skulls were gaurding the ghould stars or something called the bargeshi (s?) to stop nids getting their hands/talons on it.
