So.. I was going to make my space marines black templar, I liked the fluff but I decided I don't need an assaulty army, I already have orks and primarily run battlewagon bash and sometimes ork gun line.

So, that brings me to the question. what space marines chapter should i make them?

I don't want space wolves as i basically consider them cheating a really good shooting army you can't assault or you'd be countercharged. I want to have fun, but i also want my opponent to have fun not just know they are gonna get demolished.

what i currently have is 2 AoBR boxes and will be getting 2 more AoBR boxes in the next month

2 space marines captains which i will likely convert to different HQ

10 terminators

20 tac marines 2 with missile launchers and 2 veteran sergeants

2 dreads

I also have a razerback I use as a looted wagon but will be able to use here to and get more vehicles eventually

so double the forces above exactly within a few months

I want basically just something I can play differently than my orks. Where I don't lose as many models every turn but can still run around shoot or assault. I'm thinking I envision my army as trying to shoot more then assault if they have to but thinking bolter fire is more effective than the risk of losing their members in close combat.

any suggestions on a chapter or does it sound like I want basic codex marines?

also any suggestions on what to buy after the 2 more AoBR boxes would be awsome. also suggestions on what to convert my space marines captains would be awsome . sorry i don't know much about space marines i haven't played as them before so am clueless about being the player behind them, most experience with em is trying to put choppas into em at this point

note i don't have a space marines codex but am partially trying to decide if i want to play chapter marines or other space marines before buying the vanilla codex and deciding another chapter is the way to go

What is your favorite color? Reason being that you will have to look at the colors of your army for quite awhile so it might as well be something you like.
So if your favorite color for Space Marine armor is white you might consider the Star Phantoms chapter from the Badab War. If it was bronze and red you might try the Minotaurs chapter.
Its all up to you, but I find that picking colors first helps the rest of the decisions to flow.

I think you'll enjoy the Sternguard shooty goodness that is a codex chapter. If you like the Black Templars colors, I recommend Ravenguard... fun fluff, solid leader(s) and tons of options codex wise.

yea. if i go codex it'll be a custom chapter. I painted one as a test and it is a black/gold with a red mettalic trim and was planning to use white or a matte metal for emblems. looks liek chapter marines it is thanks I'll probably do a custom chapter if that is the case so i can mix various hq that are in there that i like and just rename em / do my own little custom models... now i guess i'll have to do an army builder thread to try and make a list with what i have at 1250 thanks guys!

There is ACTUALLY a Chapter called Vanilla Marines, they specialize in Multi Meltas and Flamers, much like the SSSSSSSSSalamanders Which contradicts their name after an Ice-Cream flavour...

I was going BT but 2 reasons i changed my mind

1) they are getting a nw codex and i am worried matt ward et all will ruin them and make them another overpowered army i want to stay competative btu not be overpowered

and to a lesser extent

2) i want to just use my current 2 AoBR boxes and eventually 4 boxes worht of marines just painting them with minimal modifications. when i want to mod models I'll make mroe odd ork stuff these i just want as a easy to use army to teach people to play and ocationally use myself for somethign different than orks

I'd argue he doesn't ruin it... just that he and rather the whole team that writes codexes seems to want mroe and mroe space marines players... which makes sense, they sell the most of them and you need less models than most armies since they cost alot of points.. the onyl issue is that i want a fun fair game and last thing i want is to have fun black templars (which they will soemtimes proxy for, i did buy the current codex) turn into the next blood angels or space wolves (and to a lesser extent grey knights... they aren't AS bad btu still more powerful than most codexes)
