Warning From Magnus? Not Listening!
|
Hi everyone,
So I'm considering getting into Warmachine, and have been doing some browsing. Without having any prior knowledge of the game or rules, I'm pretty sure I want to play Cygnar, based solely on the look and color schemes of the models.
My questions are:
1. Is Cygnar a viable army choice (ie - How competitive are they? (Please scale 1-10, 10 High, 1 Low))
2. Does anyone else with a Cygnar army have a different color scheme for them?
3. What are other competitive armies out there that will give Cygnar a run for it's money?
4. Is there any army that tends to out play Cygnar (or any other army for that matter) in most/many games?
All opinions are welcome! Thanks!

1) Of course. 10.
2) Variant schemes are at least as common as the standard schemes.
3) All of them.
4) All of them.
What army you pick has little to nothing to do with how competetive you'll be. 99% of the game comes down to personal skill rather than army choice.

I don't mean to sound rude but this is a silly question. All factions are balanced against each other, there is not a single powerful faction. Specific casters will determine how your army plays. Even then it comes down to player skill.
2. Does anyone else with a Cygnar army have a different color scheme for them?
I have one in my gallery that I am currently stripping and repainting to match some Cygnar that I was given. I personally would try to work some blue in there, but any color should work - the models signify the faction not the colors.
3. What are other competitive armies out there that will give Cygnar a run for it's money?
There is a specific caster - Bloody Barnabas - for Minions that will neutralize most Cygnar shooting but thats the only one I can think of that doesn't relate to player skill.
4. Is there any army that tends to out play Cygnar (or any other army for that matter) in most/many games?
No, see my answer to question 1 and 3.

Thanks everyone! Sorry if my ignorance of the game seems obvious, but being new to the game myself, those were the questions that seemed most obvious to ask.
It seems from the looks of it that all armies are pretty viable, so basing my choice on aesthetics and looks alone, I think Cygnar would work well for me.
Thanks again!

Having recently started Warmachine from 40k myself I understand the concern of Benshin's questions regarding how competitive they are.
Unlike other games (40k and Fantasy) where you generally find Armies only able to do one thing an nothing else no matter what units you field, and some armies became jokes of the community (Tau, Necrons). In Warmachine (and Hordes) your Warcaster can dramatically change how your army plays and feels allowing for vast difference in play-styles with in the same faction.

Now, I love both 40K and Warmachine, but seriously: "generally find Armies only able to do one thing an nothing else no matter what units you field"...this is about as far from the truth as my ass is from mars.
All that aside, Cygnar is awesome, you'll love'em.

Well... It's not that most armies can't do more than one thing - it's just that some armies do one thing so incredibly well, you'll never want to do anything else, lest you lose your competitiveness.
Warmachine/Hordes really doesn't have that problem. Want to run a CC-only Cygnar list? There's a caster for that. How about a ranged-focused Khador list? There's a Warcaster for that.
RxGhost has it right, however; play Cygnar, you'll really enjoy it. Especially if you're all for the 'Lightning Knights and Gunslingers' theme.
