Subject: Ahriman of the Thousand Sons - Just how badass should he really be?

The game has changed since the dark era of 4th edition minimization, and we're seeing more and more uber psykers hitting the field. Sadly, Ahriman languishes in darkness (along with the whole chaos codex), no pun intended. Inevitably, of course, the book will get redone and Tzeenchian sorcery will be given a facelift. In light of the Horus Heresy books, just how uber do you folks think he will/should be?
I mean, the Space Wolves are purportedly the most martially dangerous chapter, and in their invasion of Prospero had every advantage: massive numerical superiority, complete surprise, no active fleet or planetary defenses to overcome, no organized front, non-Astartes defenders in parade gear, a portion of Astartes sent away and the remaining equally unprepared, opposing Primarch is not involved in the fight, and a bunch of Custodes came along for the fight. I'm sure there are other things I'm forgetting. And even with all those things in their favor, once the Thousand Sons decided to strike back, they made an absolute mess of the invaders until the Silent Sisters showed up. In essence, without pariahs to cancel out their abilities, the Thousand Sons make all the other Astartes look like little girls.
So now we have Ahriman: the greatest of his Legion + having received the most private tutelage from Magnus + directly absorbing some of his Primarch's boundless knowledge + being further augmented by the Rubric (which culled the Legion and enhanced the survivors on an even greater scale than the flesh change epidemic) + several millenia of unrestricted study in and out of the warp = ???
If the current trend of uber characters and uber psykers continues, is 40K about to get their Teclis? Is Ahriman to be the first post-2nd edition psyker to be able to use his powers with Irresistible Force?
I, for one, sure as hell hope so.

He should be able to use more than one psychic power per turn and they can be the same one. It would be nice to see an amazing long range powerful ability and he should have it. Chief Librarian Tigrus knows all the space marine powers and Ahriman should know all the undivided and Tzeench powers (and maybe one on the Slaanesh and Nurgle powers too). But in essence he should be one bad mother on the board.... and should seize the initiative on a 3+ due to psychic premonitions... he he he...

And yet inadequate, although a lot of that has to do with the general weakness of the Chaos powers compared to those in 5th edition books.
Since now this is a "proposed rules" post, I propose the following:
Just going by fluff, I think he should have some additional psychic defense, such as a 3+ dispell ala rune weapons, or at least a personal additional save against powers.
It would be interesting if he could mimic any psychic power used within X" of him.

Agreed Omegus, about the needing a psychic dispel. It always seemed odd to me, that he didn't have psychic defense.
Honestly, I'd be happy if the psychic powers got updated, and then just increase his stats to keep up with his fluff (Though, truthfully most of the chaos characters could use that.)

There's a Chaos Fandex currently hot on this page which I view as doing a pretty decent job at elevating Ahriman, you should check it out.

Didn't the Mark of Tzeench use to make them auto-pass psychic tests?

Give him a psychic hood at least.

Ahriman is already a whole unit worth of shooting power (and a unit that is actually good at shooting). He's reasonably phenomenal in assault as well (Stop! Warp Time! force weapon, force weapon).
He has superior statistics to any loyalist chief librarian (except Daemon Prince Mephiston).
So to answer the question: as badass as he already is.

"'players must agree how they are going to select their armies, and if any restrictions apply to the number and type of models they can use."
This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.

Is something wrong here or am I wrong; Ahriman CAN use 3 powers per turn wich can be all the same if you want and MoT gives 1+ inv. save (5+ becomes 4+(example)).
I agree Ahriman needs better wargear and/or rules, one of them a clearly psychic hood or a equal to hood of hellfire.

He should have a re-reroll to hit or to wound force weapon. just because, but seizing initiative on a 3+ is ridiculous, maybe on a 5+ but still. DE will hate him then.

Then Horus comes across the lone grot, somehow managing to kill the Emperor, and punts it into space. |
