Hi guys, a buddy of mine uses bugs with lots of poisoned attacks. My usual gunline tactic doesn't work on him, as he always deepstrikes my from my flanks and rear with a trygon and genestealers. He has a tervigon, like 30 something hormagants with poison, broodlord, termagaunts that get crapped out by his tervigon, warriors that come out of spores, and a billion ripper swarms.
PLEASE GIVE ME ANSWERS!

A deepstrike-heavy army against Tau... you're screwed No way of getting around that unless you decide to hug a corner and hope for the best, which isn't so favourable either.
I think meching up might work. Devilfish and Battlesuits and just counter his ability to put units anywhere. Where he lands, you mobilise and open fire. Just got to hope to be fast enough to out-manuever him.

You're using Burst Cannons? Ah, maybe that's where you're going wrong.
Suits are for Plasma and Pods primarily to take out the bigger stuff that your enemy throws at you, you've already got plenty of S5 from your Fire Warriors - combined with Markerlights, they can be quite nasty.

If you've got some spare points I've heard that suicidal flame suits are fairly effective, as it sounds like he has a lot of rippers and hormogaunts. They're cheap and do a lot of damage, but don't expect them to survive the next turn if the target horde is still alive.

Okay i am a veteran tyranid player with quite a few tournements under my belt and here in all honesty if you are playing tyranids this is how you should play.
HOLY CRAP MOVE YOUR MODELS AS MUCH AS YOU POSSIBLY CAN,
Camping your models into one giant corner is probably the "noobest" tatic out there in my opinion, with tyranids you are going to want to spread out as much as possible, have models across the board because of this:
A, the cant multi charge you in CC which is big.
B, they have to run more,
C, they get into combat slower
If he is running a deepstrike list, and you cramp into a corner... well where do you think he is going to DS??? Right in your face... duh.. if you are spread all across the board, then he can either DS in the middle of it all ( which is bad ) or he has to decide what goes where and his army is already halved because he is rolling for reserves, so in your assualt phase make sure thatyou are jumping back as much as possibily to put the best amount of room between you and yoru opponent.

Of course, it goes without saying (but I'm saying it anyway) - make sure to pick off the synapse creatues quickly with your Railguns and such. It really gets on the Tyranid players' nerves: you're killing their most powerful units, mucking up their plan, making them do additional rolls.. helps you on the psychological front. Sounds funny, but it's true.

Vehicles over suits might be the way here. Broadsides will be in super trouble from deepstriking units. Hammerheads can leggit when things get squishy.

cover a side table edge: If you infiltrate kroot to cover one side table edge, and then move your entire force(save a few things) to that edge, not only can he not come in on that side but then he has to come at you in a very focused channel and has far less room to DS. It works, Ive done it many times. Plus, you need less units to spread out to prevent DS'ing.

A) Keep your models spread out. You want to avoid multi-assaults, and make it so he can't just leapfrog through your army. Castling is a big no-no. Take advantage of the range and mobility.
B) Move everything as far as you can every turn, unless it can't shoot while doing so (ASS Broadsides for instance).
C) If you have kroot, use them to speed bump/road block. If not, Gun Drones are very effective at this as well. Anything to buy you an extra turn or two of shooting.
D) For god sakes, don't get out of your transports unless you absolutely NEED the extra S5 shooting. Fire Warriors dismebarking and rapid firing is a "last stand" sort of thing, because if they (with help from anything else) don't kill everything within charge range (which with fleeting nids is 13-18") then they're done for.
Kill the terivgon first with your Plasma rifles, missile pods, and railguns. The genestealers should be priority #1 for flamers, burst cannons, pulse carbines, pulse rifles, etc.

Err... fletchettes aren't cheap, and my devilfishes (I have 3) already have 'em
Wait what if I use my fishies to drive me fws to a more strategic point, then charge the fishes at something big. I've used that tactic before, and it got his tervigon down to 1 wound. He finally destroyed my fish with a penetrating hit, but charging my tank left him in the line of site of a buttload of pathfinders with rail rifles
That happened to be his last synapse creature, causing his termagaunts to just lurk, leaving me to just mop up

They aren't cheap but to force a squad to assault them is worth it. I would gladly short my fire warrior squads one person to make up for the points. Ans the devil fish with them are great vs hordes too because that might force two squads to assault one vehicle to get a closer move to your gun line. Yes you are sacrificing the tank but it may be to your advantage.

Suit weapon points are wasted on Burst Cannons, to be fair. You have them on vehicles and no shortage of S5 AP5 weapons. Suit slots should be used for more powerful guns like the Missile Pod (ideal for popping light vehicles and, with AP4, killing Bikerz) and flamers (bye Orky scum!).
I say this as an Ork and Tau player. Both armies can absolutely knobble the other with the right list. A fast moving, gun-heavy Tau army can mince the Green Tide before they get near combat. But a slow Tau army will be tabled by a very assaulty, alpha-strike Ork list.

No, the flechettes become less useful as your opponent's armour saves improve. Against Orks with a 6+ save, they're gold dust. Against Marines etc, meh, not so much.
Plasma is massive overkill against Orks. You won't get instakill against Warbosses (T5). A Missile pod has a longer range, double shots all the time and against T4/5 infantry it'll still be wounding on a 2+ and the AP4 will go through standard and Ard Boyz armour. And you really, really want to keep your suits 36" away from Orks rather than the 12" you'd need to get the extra shot from your Plasma Rifles.

This is my army list:
1 commander farsight
1 crisis bodyguard with Airbursting Fragmentation Launcher, command and control node, plasma rifle
3 crisis suits 1: missile pod, plasma rifle, shield generator 2: fusion blaster, missile pod, multi-tracker 3: missile pod, flamer, shield generator
12 FW with pulse rifles & devilfish
12 FW with pulse carbines & devilfish
9 FW with pulse rifles & devilfish
1 piranha with 2 seeker missiles & burst cannon
5 pathfinders with 1 rail rifle
8 gundrones
1 Hammerhead (soon to be another)
1 sniper drone team (may be removed)
I'm questioning whether to keep farsight and the sniper drone team, and I'm guaranteed to get another hammerhead soon!

you cant have 2 hammerheads in a farsight list, though you can have a skyray... and the skyray box can make a hammerhead for your non-farsight lists
For suits, I like 3 twin missile and either TA or flamer. Probably TA cause you want to stay away, but the flamer is not bad at all and a bit cheaper. You can have a team leader with a pair of shield drones for both wound allocation and a bit of toughness.
I would suggest more suits, either the full 9 or 6 and 6 stealth suits. The stealth suits are great cause you are already running pathfinders, and suits with 2 gundrones in place of your independant drone squads get 18 burst cannon and 12 tlinked carbines at BS 5/TL 4 with 2 markerlight hits.
