Hello Dakka
Please ease my pain by sharing some of your worst miniature misfortunes. Things that have resulted in the ruin, loss or general destruction of your favourite tiny creations, so that I know I am not alone.
Let me tell you my tale of woe... It all began many moons ago (last week) where upon I spent many long hours painting my BA Captain, and struggling with difficult NMM effect. I put sooo much effort into him, but it was worth it because he ended up looking really great and being one of the smartest, neatest miniatures I have ever painted. I spent all of Sunday just working on his base. And I have been so proud of him all week, standing at the front of my display cabinet.
But of course (...) I couldn't help thinking that maybe he might be even better, if I just used my airbrush to add a subtle glow effect from his sword. I practised the effect a little on an old plastic marine and the results looked good. Today I finally decided to bite the bullet and give it a go. So I loaded up my air brush with some light blue paint, pointed it... I really should have got a photo of him first
Needless to say: I now know what I'll be spending most of next week repainting.

Getting into Tau I knew I would want Broadsides and a fair amount of them, but they cost a lot of $ and after getting all my XV8's I let my wallet rest before picking up the heavy railguns. After getting 3 of them and finally having enough points to play in my stores 2000 Point Team game (1000 per player) I painted them up and got them ready for their big debut.
Which their extreme range me and my partner deployed them on the table edge, but not on the side of the table I was at so about halfway through the game... -smack- two of my Broadsides fall off the table and into 5-6 different pieces.
also ripped my shirt on a metal chair, bad night over all.

The new land raiders came out, I'm running a Deathwing army beautifully painted. Picked up a land raider painted it up, 8 layers of paint, blended to near perfection. I painted an action diorama on the sides of angel of death with scythe to match my deathwind dread. Fully detailed interior.
I was staying at my mom's house since work kept me away for weeks to a month at a time. While I was away, my mom shows one of her friends my models and how great an artist I am. While showing her friend the landraider, she drops it, breaking the sponsons into may pieces, and basically I'm unable to repair it without it looking bad, many of the pieces bent.
Also, 4 of my 5 fully painted armies were stolen out of my car, in order of loss. Eldar, Dark Angels then a year or two later, Sisters of Battle and Imperial Guard.

Alright.... most of these broke the same way ( i guess i dont learn ... )
Most recent accident... my Necro Collosus, i have this weird habit of liking to balance things... so i placed the colossus on the back rest of my chair. i forgot about it, bumped the chair , and it fell on a group of spear skeletons....
the axe broke ( cant repair as its not an miniature ) , the skeletons ( old GW ones ) shattered. Torso broke apart , arms split apart , the shoulder socket broke off still attached to the arm. In other words there is NO POSSIBLE WAY to repair those skeletons.

I gave away over 130 Battletech minis when my wife and i got serious. I had many, many of the "unseen" mechs, as well as conversions. I figured my days of gaming were done. A few years later I was back at it.
Also gave away small tyranid, Tau, and SM armies at the same time.

I once kicked my (sort of) mate's metal Wyvern with Orc boss whatever rider right across the room. This was floorhammer and we had just finished a big game of 3rd Ed WHFB I stood up to walk over and accidentally punted his model, it kind of rolled like a football the wings bending in (as this was the old lead type stuff not the later 'white metal'). It also hurt quite a bit as I was only wearing socks... Considering he could be such a tool he was very understanding.

This weekend, as I was finishing a Black Templar Marshal I made from Scibor bits, Grey knight bits, and black templar bits, I dropped it face down in white paint.
2 hours later, I had repaired the damage.
Not the worst thing, but I felt pretty crappy about it.

People dropped my metal Venerable Dreadnought on the floor several times, especially after I told people not to touch it, causing several paint chips or the model coming apart.
