At the risk of being shot down and receiving further death threats on Fanbois, here's my introduction to the forum:

SORRY CONTAINS RUDE WORDS AS I WAS SUPER ANGRY

http://thefrontlinegamer.blogspot.com/2011/06/dont-leave-finecast-in-sun.html#comments

please feel free to insult me now and claim I'm some sort of Troll who hates Games Workshop and needs to die in some way! Cheers.

Sorry I've had an 'interesting' day. Somebody suggested I post the story here so I have. I fully expect people to have a dig at me because that's what has happened elsewhere.

I knew this new stuff has a low melting point as such, but not that low! Thanks for the heads up I guess, and welcome to dakka!

Thinking about it, this is kinda BS, at first I was okay with this new material, yes it has it's miscasts, but those can be replaced by the store (at no extra charge). But once it's built and it melts (in relatively low temperatures, car/conservatory, for example) it's your problem, and can't be replaced. Damn.

Nope. Currently the trend is to hate GW. You're good. I kind of wish that they'd just create a new subsection of the forum for the hate so that we can actually read Dakka again without seeing Failcast this and Finecrap that, but you get what you get.

Your review is interesting, though you should warn that there is profanity in it. While I don't care, there are kids here, and I normally see the trend when linking is to indicate that it might soil their eyes. Do you by chance know how warm it was outside when the mini melted? What type of material was it on? Was it something dark/light absorbent?

Welcome, by the way!

Details are this:

It was on my cutting mat, which to be fair was warm to the touch but not boiling hot
The mat was on my gaming table a sand covered MDF board
It was in a 'sun spot' when I got into the room created by my quite thick glassed double glazing
According to the BBC it was only 22 degrees C outside so hardly a scorcher here in sunny Brum

Hmm. I'd like to do some testing with controlled heat and a timer, but I've not actually had a chance to get any of the new models. I sent an email to my carpool mate to see if he cares if we take a detour to go pick a couple up. I think he's been wanting the Terminator Librarian anyway, so I should be able to independently confirm the "bent staff" report in addition to having a look at this for myself.

I think the Gandalf perhaps has a particular problem because the hind leg is so thin and all the weight is on it.

It melted at 22 degrees in a British Summer, through a Window which filters out the high energy UV etc. Like a good Catholic Girl I am having trouble swallowing this. Is there anyone willing to do a scientific method test? Well at £15 per finecast miniature I guess not!

A very odd thing to happen to a miniature, if it is because of the sun well they (GW) have big problems.

Having bought some FW material over the years I have had to use some "Hot water then Cold water" treatment to straighten resin casts.

TBH with you I'm still surprised it melted on me, not sure I'd be willing to spend £21 again to do a controlled experiment though. I will say this though my loft room was probably a lot warmer than 22 degrees C. I gets really warm up there, but I really didn't think it'd be an issue. I'm not likely to want to waste £21 either, because I'm going to lose my job due to redundancy on the 17th June. I don't expect people just to accept it because you don't know me from Adam, at least you've not been as rude with your disbelief as some have been. So thanks for that at least.

Hey, welcome to Dakka. Sorry about the mini.

Just for the record, temperatures down here can exceed 40ºC (that's 104ºF) in the summer. I'll wait till it gets warmer and ask my FLGS staff about the minis in store display. I'd do it myself, but I don't think I can waste my limited income on experiments...

My local GW have said they'll replace it no questions asked. So its not that much of a problem but I think I'd like to see some genuine heat stress tests on resin figures. A bit more info that really should have occurred to me, the Terminater Librarian was right next to Gandalf on the cutting mat and he is absolutely fine.

i like this reply from the link

the former GW manager of Sutton Coldfield has just informed me that the Leamington Spa stores Finecast window display has also melted. If you want to post it on those places then by all means do so... I posted it on BoLS and got nothing but grief and insults off of people who don't want to hear any bad news.

Way to go GW. Other companies don't find it difficult to source resin properly, or price it reasonably.
I am finding this epicfail amusing.

n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.

If we can get another verification on this from a reputable source, I will happily put the boot into GW. Right now with the price hikes etc, I think GW is committing seppaku. Which is great for Privateer Press, FoW and jut about all the other gaming systems out there. Well, if they go belly up I call Shotgun on the Space Marine/Adeptus Astartes IP..

Thank you for sharing this with us. Personally I think GW (FW) resin has always been crap. People are doing better casting in their garages.
