Over in my local store, it seems that blood angels have taken over ultramarines as a commonly used army?
Where ultramarines were often seen being used they have now vanished and been replaced with blood angels.

Is this the same with anyone else ?

You do mean codex space marines not just ultramarines don't you?

well yeah, it just happens that most 'codex space marine' player have them painted as ultramarines in poole

the local Ultraboys player is now a BA player, I was the only BA player when you had to use the WD version and now I got fed up with people playing FoTH armies and just play vanilla marines

At gamesworkshop bouremouth most space marines are painted ultramarines.

There is a shizen load of blood angel players now, and lots of them are noobs..... I'll say for now the boys in blue can take a rest

No new BA players at my store. GK seem to be the new Ultramarines here.

kinda how i feel when i pre ordering a new codex for an army i've done for years, just another noob collecting it cause its new.

Codex Marines dominate locally (compared to BA) but its IG that has become the new Codex Marines for us

The only Marines players in my area are the 2 Blood Angels. Myself and a younger player. I have been playing Blood Angels since 3rd ed, and have never played a Codex Marine list. Even when 5th came out and we were using the Pdf I stayed with the Red Boys.

In late M41 the Blood Angels went rogue (Note the correct spelling) and invaded Ultramar. Coincidentally the Utramarines were on the other side of the galaxy when this happened and Ultramar was quickly taken.

I really think the sheer amount of marine codexes being created is a joke, More variety of armies wouldn't go a miss rather than lots of marine codexes.

Even as a marine player, I always prefer to face non-marine lists (its why I have my Tau, to avoid SM vs SM battles)

Agreed. 2 of the 3 players I most often play with are SM players, so every time we fight we have to make a reason why these chapters are fighting, this can range from paintball in the 41st milenium, to a virtual reality program being used to train new recruits. At its worst, it turns into "You're a heretic!" "No your a heretic!" "No your a heretic!" "No your a heretic!" "No your a heretic!" "No your a heretic!" "No your a heretic!" "No your a heretic!" "No your a heretic!" "No your a heretic!" "No your a heretic!" "No your a heretic!" "No your a heretic!" and so on.

Nobody in my gaming groups plays Blood Angels, quite a few of us play Codex Marines. I wouldn't say they've replaced them in any capacity.

Of course it is. The new standard dex is GK. I'll probably sell my old GK army soon as a result.

I think the Blood Angels role as the Moral Marines appeals to a lot of players who aren't so into grimdark, but I haven't been to a LGS in ages so I can't give a good answer.

Wait, I don't understand. If Blood Angels have overtaken Ultramarines, who do we look to as our Spiritual Liege?
