Over the next couple of Months or so i hope to have the solid core of a Dark Eldar Army coming along.
As i have a problem with actually getting things done hobby wise i decided to try doing a Project Log.

The aim of the whole thing is to end up with roughly 1750pts of Dark Eldar by October as i hope to take them to the Throne of Skulls.
I'm not really sure just yet where i want this project to go in terms of the army list, competitiveness is secondary to fun for this army.

What i have so far assembled is
1 Duke Sliscus
1 Succubus
4 Incubi
1 Drahzar
9 Kabalite Trueborn
9 Wyches

I hope to show off the first painted model before tomorrow to give people some sort of idea as to how the army will hopefully look.
The background for the army will be posted on my blog, with a link to it in my signature
anyway, thanks for viewing and i hope some of you will take the time to follow this.
I apologise for the lack of pictures right away but again i hope to correct that within the next couple of days.

Wookie.

The first update!

Background
Born and named Jallil Delg'cahl it would be many years before she grew to infamy and power. A young and gifted captain at no more than 400years old she would soon rise within the Kabal of the Bladed Serpent to the captain of the Kabal's flagship, The Ravaging Storm. From this position the young captain would go on to claim undisputed power within the Kabal.
By working her way onto the inner council of her Archon, Sylardath, she was was able to set the stage for her coup. Upon her advice Sylardath put to the sword those lesser Archons whose Kabals had sworn fealty to the Bladed Serpent, claiming that they sought to remove him from power and install Sylardaths personal bodyguard, the Dracon Praxoroth.

With such obstacles removed Jallil carefully orchastrated the appointment of her own allies into positions of power. At this time whispers began calling for the Red Viper to take their place as the Kabals leader.
The paranoia that is present in all Dark Eldar began to grow in Sylardath, jumping at shadows and rumours the Archon sought to drown out calls for his replacement in the only way he knew how. A real space raid.

Gathering his Kabal and those of his allies he made for the planet Athenica. Wishing to calm himself in the chaos of battle Sylardath and a third of his Kabal would make planet fall as the vanguard. This action would seal his fate.

Within moments of his forces touching down he recieved a communication from the Ravaging Storm. "And you call yourself Archon ? you've been manipulated like some sort of foolish Mon Keigh, you're not fit to lead. This planet shall be your doom, your Kabal, shall be mine. I Jallil Delg'cahl, the Red Viper have taken all you had and turned it against you. Do not think you will survive this day. "
The moment the communique ended a venomed blade tore open Sylardaths throat and spilt his lifes blood onto the fertile grounds of the agri world Athenica. The last sound the Archon heard before his death, was the mocking laughter of the Viper.

From that day the Bladed Serpent have served the Viper in all things, her position insurmountable. Whenever the Kabal goes to war, the Viper clad all in Red plate stands apart from the rest, twin blades creating whirling arcs of death as she stalks the field of battle.

A raid from the Bladed Serpent is oft proceeded by what seems like a warp storms begginings, often causing mass evacuations from the target world. It is then as hundereds of refugee ships make for safety that the Kabal erupts from the warp, lightning quickness out matching the immense firepower of the Imperial fleet. Before any semblance of counter attack can begin, the Bladed Serpent withdraw, ships swollen with slaves and yet one more victory to the Vipers tally.

Army
I have no real idea where i'm going with this army. The Red Viper will use the rules of Duke Sliscus, however what else is in the army i'm not too sure of yet.
i'm hoping people will follow the construction of my Kabal. I'd like to say i have lots to show off but that would be a lie. For now here are a couple of images of my Hq. The Red Viper.
i apologise if the photo's are a little large.
Comments welcome of course.

The Idea

As with any army, I guess i need some sort of end goal to look to achieve otherwise i'm kinda just hoarding things together without any real reason.

The Basic idea of the army is one which relies on stunningly early aggression, hoping to shatter the enemy force and to steal away again fairly unmolested, to this extent quick units able to achieve this goal seem to be the way forward.

As the Duke/Duchess is leading the army Deep Strike is automatically available for my vehicle's which is very nice indeed. The other thing however that interests me more is his ability to upgrade a squads poisoned weapons to 3+ poison which is nothing to be sniffed at.

So with the Red Viper as the starting point i guess i should build around her. First things first then. A bodyguard unit.
I think I'll go with 9 Kabalite Trueborn led by a Dracon, equipping the unit with 2 Splinter cannons and the other 7 (yes including the dracon) with shardcarbines as i recently discovered they benefit from the Duke's rule.
So this unit is capable of pumping out 33 wounds on 3's shots a turn and adding the Vipers blaster pistol are quite a powerful little unit. These guys will be getting the Vipers personal transport to get about it.
A raider armed with a dark lance for the chance to crack a transport and the mandatory flickerfield. This combination should allow for a deepstrike near say... A spacemarine unit in a rhino. The Dark lance should hopefully crack the transport and if worse comes to worst the Viper can add her blaster pistol.
Suddenly those 10 marines are staring down the barrels of several angry spiky space pixies. Last time me and a friend ran the numbers the trueborn are killing roughly 5 and a third marines. Not too shabby.

So that's The Viper and her buddies sorted out. What i'm struggling with is what to add next, i know i need some troops but i'm not sure how many or what would fit the idea of a pirate raiding force best.

As for the rest of the army, i can't help but eye up those lovely razorwing jetfighters and toy with the idea of a wing of them screaming across the battle field picking on whatever they're assigned.

Any suggestions on how to fill out some of the other parts for the army would be welcomed. Effectiveness is secondary to overall theme of a lightning fast pirate fleet.

I know that's technically what all Dark Eldar armies are but i don't mean it quite like that. I mean that this force isn't the typical Kabal, they're rebels, brigands one and all, although they call themselves the Kabal of the Bladed Serpent, they really are just a mercenary force led by a pirate captain, I may change to background to make this more in keeping, perhaps turning the Red Viper and her lot into a force for hire in High Commoragh.

Comments and advice more than welcome and hopefully before the end of the week there will be an update containing photo's of a redone Red Viper and more of her lot.

Thank you very much, although I'm changing the head. I just think shorter hair will work better and the plastic face is much clearer in detail than that resin one.

Is that a finecast Lelith head?

I love the plastic kits for customization, its a lot easier to make a character with them. Nice scheme too, very similar to mine.

Fluff is good, I admit thats what attracts me to Dark Eldar...they're all backstabbing bastards

Thank you very much
It's the finecast succubus head
I think Dark eldar look pretty good in red tbh, and i like the plastic kits too for the ability to customize and convert from them.

And here is a redone Red Viper

been working on the Vipers face, i've redone her and am somewhat happier with the overall look now. I'm not sure about her armour however and i may bring that up another shade of red, thoughts and comments on that would be nice.

It almost feels as if the legs are a little too static, she looks like she has just ruined someones day from the waist up

Saw your Drahzar conversion in your gallery too...man he looks awesome! What are the legs/demi-klavies from???

I think the base was what really helped her look like she wasn't just static. I'll hopefully rectify that later if i can find where that base has gotten off too.

I'm glad you like him
Drahzar is literally just an Incubi with a small Eldar statue. I just cut the leg at the knee and bevelled it out and twisted the other foot in order to get the right sort of pose. As for the Klaives they're just the Incubi Klaive cut at certain places and repositioned. The finecast stuff makes it so easy to achieve.

Anyway todays update has me showing off a model i painted up for no real reason as it's not going to get used. But i think it showcases any painting skill i might have better than the original Red Viper pictures, what with her scary gaunt face, an eye without a pupil and that terrible strand of hair on the face which annoyed the living crap out of me.So Without further ado, here she is, the Queen of Wyches, The daughter of slaughter, The Succubus of the Cult of Strife (i think). Lelith Hesperax

And a brighter one

And one from behind, because, well. why not!

The trueborn have finished being built and tonight or tomorrow at the latest i should have the first one done as a test scheme. Depending on how much time i have tonight i might make a quick update with a tester model. I'm thinking i'll go with Dark Angels Green/Orkhide Shade as a base, lighten it with a 1:1 with Snot Green, then 1:1 Snot and Scorpion green highlight for the edge of the armour, the cloth on the models will probably be Mechrite red, washed devlan mud, then Red Gore and possibly then 1:1 Red gore and Blood red.Last But not least here's a picture of my convert Drahzar Master of Blades. I'm not sure about the demi klaives but i like the pose
.

Hopefully a test model will be uploaded later on today after collage.
