My mate and I recently got into 40k, he collects IG and I collect Ultramarines. We're going to have a 1000 point battle after the exams and wanted some advice on my army list from the more experienced players. My mate will have two imperial guard battle forces (so 40 guardsmen, 2 sentinels, 6 heavy weapons teams and 2 command squads). On top of that a Leman Russ and a Lord Comissar.

And my army list is as follows:

1 x Captain w. Relic Blade + Bolter with Hellfire Rounds 140pts

3 x Tactical Squads (10 man)
[Melta, Multimelta :: Sergeant w. chainsword/boltpistol + meltabombs] 180 pts
[Flamer, HeavyBolter :: Sergeant w. stormbolter] 180 pts
[Plasma, LasCannon :: Sergeant w. Bolter + meltabombs] 195 pts

1 x Terminators (5 man)
StormBolters and Powerfists 200pts

1 x Dreadnought
Multimelta + CCW (stormbolter) 105pts

This comes to exactly 1000pts, Most of my guys are from AOBR explaining the very standard weapon choices on the dreadnought and terminators.

So what do you guys think? Am I going to get slaughtered or stand a chance? Any improvements?

I think you are good. Just get rid of the Russ as soon as you can.

If he only has one tank you won't be too bad. My only advice would be to get a couple Rhinos on those Tac Squads, and drop the Termies. You'll need to be careful with your dread, as the only piece of Armor you got he's gonna be focusing all his Antitank toward that. I'm not really sure how a foot list will go.

Some other advice, drop that captain and throw in a libby, and get Gate. It will give you some much needed mobility if you don't want to buy a couple Rhinos. Well, and ML is better than HB in my opinon, even against guard horde.

Was originally going to go footslogging, with terminators leading the charge with all the marines running until in range, with dread and the squad with melta focusing to destroy the russ, but I like this idea of yours going in rhinos. After all I do lack ridiculously in mobility

Rhinos rhinos rhinos! Learn to love this little plastic boxes, because thats what being space marine is all about!

Second don't forget to combat squads your tactical marines heavy weapon + 4 other guys, can't tell you how many new marine players I see drag their heavy weapon around and never fire it.

I was trying to resist the temptations of a mechanized army and go all out footslogger, but drive by shootings and APC styled combat is too cool!
