I'm looking into getting into Warmachine (after 40K) but I hate dealing with metal models. I hate the gluing and I really hate the paint chipping.

I've seen on the website that there are plastic WM battleboxes, which is great.

I however couldn't find what other models are available in plastic.
Is everything else metal?

Thanks.

Thanks, this is very useful!

In general, is there a move towards plastic and if so, how quick?

Am I going to gimp myself too much by staying away from the metal minis?

There's no real move towards plastic models. For some large models (jacks mainly, and the occasional large heavy infantry models) they're starting to use plastics, but they're still releasing far more models in metal than they are plastic and show no interest in changing that. Don't expect to ever see small based models in anything but metal, excepting stuff like Warcasters in battleboxes.

Lurking in the shadows...

Thanks for the helpful list. I really hope they do go towards the Resin/plastics, as they are beautiful and easy to stick together.

PP's goal in making certain units/models in plastic is to *stabilize* prices. From what I remember, PP has had two price increases in it's history, and both of those were due to skyrocketing tin prices. That's why you'll find lots of warjacks and medium-based infantry in plastic. They haven't yet mentioned any plans to do the full line in plastic, so your best bet is to collect what you like even if it's metal. (I prefer metal, but that's just me.)

Pretty much reiterating what Mr. Grey said. The only things really to expect in plastic anytime soon are the rest of the light warjack kits for the battlebox chasis (Sentinal, Redeemer, Nightwretch) and eventaul Hordes ones which have been stated as in the books, but no date whatsoever has been given on them.

Battle engines are a mix of metal and resin, but even then, you'll note that the Khador one is pretty much damn near all metal (still being $85 is pretty impressive, as a note.) PP seems to not want to put money on some of the start-up needed, and right now the issues iwth their outsourced plastic products seems to of put a damper on future plastics in a while.

And stuff.

It's a real shame about their problems with the plastics - I keep hearing polarizing viewpoints going from "This is awesome!" all the way to "I really hate the plastics and will be grabbing every metal warjack I can get my hands on". I've seen some of the mold lines and the deformations on the Khador kit in pictures, and there isn't really much you can do to fix a concave bubble in the smokestack of a machine.
I'm really hoping that the "new wave" of plastics - by which I mean the Man o' War kit and whatever plastics arrive from Wrath and the next Hordes expansion - will have solved whatever previous problems PP had with current production.

In the meantime, I'm eyeing the Extreme Khador warjacks as possible platforms for an omni-jack. Ideally, I'd like to pick up the Extreme(s), at least one plastic kit, and the Torch and Black Ivan upgrade kits and just magnetize everything. I'm hoping that clever use of magnets will allow me to field a warjack that can be turned into the entire range of Khador Juggernaut-chassis warjacks, including the two character jacks we're getting in Wrath.

The biggest offputting thing for the plastic jacks is the are a lot bigger than the metals. The plastic Cygnar kit is as big as Rowdy who used to stand much higher than the normal clads.

I like the bigger plastics, and I'd like to see PP shift all their jack's to that scale.

They are slowly going towards that direction, the light are also larger than the old metal versions. I thinks that we'll see the second jack chasis in plastic within year and it should be in scale with the other plastic jacks. After that only smaller jacks are thead and stormclad, which they could release as a upgrade kit to ironclad box.

I don't think they'll ever re-release the old character jacks as plastic kits, whether it be an upgrade kit or not. The Behemoth, Avatar, Deathjack, and Thunderhead are all literally one of a kind in the Iron Kingdoms, and were the very first character warjacks. Beast 09 and Drago at least are different enough from their regular counterparts to make them really stand out - actually, I wish they'd release a new Berserker kit that more closely followed Drago's model. I'd go for that in a heartbeat.

my 2 cents

I really though I'd hate it when they announced the plastic line as i like the heft of metal and I wasnt at all impressed by the heavy jacks

but I have a unit of Trollkin Fennblades and I assembled a set of Exemplar Cinerators for a friend and I have to say those two sets are very pretty. I was most of all impressed by how thin they were able to make the Cinerator swords. thin enough to believe they can cut rather than bludgeon someone to death. They're the first I've seen to be able to pull that off.

I have a set of Warpborn skinwalkers. these models were originally going to be in plastic but due to quality issues they were released as metals (or so i heard). Awesome models but the halberds bend so easily. I find myself wishing these were plastic

Hey, I just met you,

Skinwalkers were designed from start-to-finish as metal. It seems the issues with plastics had already been made apparent when their design process came up and so that's why they're what they are. THey would likely have had entirely differents culpts, had they been plastic.

The Ogrun Assault Corps. are a similar example fo this. These are models that PP probably would of preferred to do plastic, but theyw ere designed entirely as metal.

And stuff.

Cygnar Gun Mages are or will be in plastic soon (I forget the date).

Untrue, unfortunately; however, they were re-released with updated sculpts, albeit in metal.

If only they would make Black 13 bigger. Midget Gunmage Strike Force.

The Gun Mage resculpts is currently available and was metal. There are absolutely no (at this time) announced plastic models save for the resin-metal hybrids that are the battle engines.

And stuff.
