Hello Dakka!

I have been trolling these forums pretty much since I started playing last summer. One of my friends has been playing Warhammer 40k for years now and finally got me into it. (I dunno, guess I have too much "extra" money running around these days...) I really am leaning toward a Necron style of play: slow and hard to kill. I was talked out of it as Necrons... need help. Not a good experience for a starting player, I hear. I split a box of Assault on Black Reach with another friend so we could start our armies and he picked Space Marines. I now have a nice, small army started and love painting and playing the Green Tide. I'm waiting for the new Necron Codex to come soon, but will not be bored with things to paint/assemble while we wait.

I look forward to posting me meager attempts at painting my models soon!

Welcome :'D
Regarding Necron , its sort of a good and bad time to start.

Good part is , they should be getting new codex with new lines of models this year.

Bad part is , if you want to start right now, you might have to replace lots of models.

Yeah, I joked about having too much money laying around when I started this hobby. I don't have THAT much money. I think I'd rather wait, make an Ork army that I know how it will play (kind of, I'm still a newb,) and then make my unit selections once the new codex comes out. I don't want to lay down real money for a unit if it's not what I want to play, even if it's not nerfed to death by the new codex.

Welcome to Dakka.

I play both Orks and Necrons, and they're both fun.

Orks are way easier to start off playing, but expect people to dump their necron armies and sell them here (cheap) as they ragequit Necrons when the new codex drops.

It would be hard to nerf necrons harder (except in a couple of places like Monolith armour and Warscythes) and still sell them. As a new codex they'll likely want to get more people playing them, so hopefully they'll get brought up to about the same potency as the newer codexes.

The Viletide: Daemons of Nurgle/Deathguard: 7400 pts
Disclples of the Dragon - Ad Mech - about 2000 pts
GSC - about 2000 Pts
Rhulic Mercs - um...many...
Circle Oroboros - 300 Pts or so
Menoth - 300+ pts

Welcome!

Orks are a fun army to see on the table top, so props to you! Playing an army before starting the "this is the one I want" can be VERY benificial.
1) You know the game and can make informed choices about what you want that army to do.
2) You pay less overall cost on said army as you will not be buying models that don't work of you.
3) Experiance painting (with orks I am sure you have lots as they tend to field a good amount of models, reguardless of play style) means more statified finish wioth the models in your "star" army.

Fight hard!

Looking at the problem is different from solving it, though observation is a part of the process
