Can the two be stacked? for instance...... Blood angel sanguinary priest gives a friendly space wolf player furious charge. Does the space wolf player get furious charge from the counterattack special rule? It does say under counterattack that you gain the extra attack just as if you yourself had assaulted that turn.

You gain an attack as if you were charging, but you are not actually charging. Because of this Furious Charge is not in effect.

No.

You gain the +1 Attack as if you have charged - you only count as charging for the attack bonus, NOT anything else.

Key phrase in the counter-attack rule being: "as if they had assaulted that turn" and in the furious charge rule being: "on a turn which the unit has assaulted into combat."

'As if' tacitly states that they have not assaulted.

Actually, the key bit is all of the sentence together.

The "as if" part is only related, in context, to the assault bonus. For no other reason do you count as having assaulted

The guys above are correct, and this is explicitly answered in the Space Wolves FAQ, IIRC. I'd recommend taking a peek there too.

I don't think teammates are allowed to give each other benefits like this. Correct me if I'm wrong though.

It depends on the tournament, usually.

So there is no hard and fast, official rule on it? Could my Tyrannid buddy's Tervagon give my marines FNP?

If the tournament allows it, yes.

Or, between friends, if you agree to it.

Good to know...I think my game today just got a little more interesting.

Well the ability to confer special rules to a teammate aside. These two DO NOT stack. Furious Charge is applied when YOU assault. Counter-Attack is used when you get assaulted. They take place at two completely different times. Hope that helps.

There was around a month-long period at the beginning of 2010 in which GW actually ruled that they DO stack, in the SW FAQ. In January this helped a buddy of min win the first Golden Ticket to Vegas given out, as that combo made his Straken-led infantry IG horde brutally nasty. I mean, it's a strong list anyway. But with that ruling they were pretty insane.

In the late rounds he was on the top table and someone was filming one of his games for a battle report/online magazine/thing, and this Ork player charged like a full 30-Ork squad into TWO of the IG blobs squads (thinking to himself, no doubt, that IG are squishy). So the IG swing, and kill like 25 Orks, and the guy holding the camera is kind of narrating and going like "Okay, that was brutal, but now all the Orks swing simultaneously", and the Ork player, realizing what had happened goes "No, that was at I4; I just got raped."

That may not be an exact quote, but near enough.

About a week later, GW updated the FAQ to reverse the ruling and say NO, you can't benefit from Furious Assault when you're Counter-Attacking.

That FAQ is still floating around too IIRC... it appears if you do a Google Search (it's the top result). Looks like GW forgot to remove the file from their site.

It's actually better now that the new FAQs look very different from the older ones (white background and better text instead of the fancy art background). Right after they reversed the ruling though, it was very confusing since not everyone knew where to find the FAQs on the main website.

I ran into this problem before I started frequenting the FAQ page on the GW website (rather than just google search and picking the GW link).
