I ordered ~$500 worth of bits from ebay resellers to make a Counts-as Chaos Space Marine army using the Grey Knights codex. I love chaos, but the CSM codex is rather boring, I really want to play a 'Chaos Chosen' army, like a 1st company marine army, where most of the models are experienced vets. I feel like hundreds of year old veteran power armor soldiers are better represented with the grey knights, specifically purifiers. Razorbacks as predators, cultists as henchmen, cultist industrial carry all for a storm raven, ect...

My 2 streams of thought are as follows:

Alpha Legion: Coateaz so for henchmen (cultists) as troops. Alpha legion are a very behind the scenes army, I like the idea of the small squads of purifiers and big squads of cultists. I love the blue/green and silver color combo. My only complaint is that I am exclusively using the Sanguinary Guard torsos and some really cool heads, I feel like all the cool bits I got will be lost in the swirling mass of colors. That is the biggest thing keeping me from painting them as Alpha Legion.

Steel Brethren: I have had a boner for the Steel Brethren for quite some time now. I like the Iron Warriors a lot, but their dark gunmetal color scheme doesn't really tickle my fancy to the same degree that the evil bright armor, and the asymmetrical shoulder pads of the Steel Brethren. I plan on using a bunch of tanks so that works out too... Plus no one plays them. And on top of all of that it would LOOK like a grey knight army on the board until you got up close and saw they were chaos. Another reason I am gravitating toward them.

I am 50/50 split on this and value the opinions of this forum. Thoughts? Flip a coin? Eat mushrooms and go on a vision trip in the woods?

Eat the mushrooms and go on a vision trip, and then paint them alpha legion.

"The uniforms of the Imperial guard are camouflaged in order to protect their wearers by hiding them from sight. the principle is that what the enemy cannot see, he cannot kill. This is not the way of the Adeptus Astartes. A Space Marine's armour is bright with heraldry that proclaims his devotion to his Chapter and the beloved Emperor of Mankind. Our principle is that what the enemy can see, he will soon learn to fear." -The codex Astartes

Steel Brethren it is.

1. I will be "that Steel Brethren Guy".

2. Shining silver armor is a easy sell as a 'counts-as' grey knights.

3. My transport heavy army fits the fluffy perfectly.

4. I love the Iron Warriors.

I'm going to start a P&M blog this weekend as I put the army together.
