Hey you guys.
With the upcoming release, the next 40k RPG from Fantasy Flight where we finally get to don our spikes and skulls and lay waste to the Corpse-Emperor's Imperium as servants of Chaos, my LUUG (Local unfriendly gaming group ) have seriously been considering getting on this acting thingymajig train. So my question is simple-obvious stereotypical features aside (e.g. World Eaters being maniacs, Word Bearers being deeply religous) how would you go about impersonating a marine from each Legion (I've included the Red Corsairs for posterity, and because they're awesomesauce)? Speciffically, I'm thinking Alpha Legion, Night Lords, and Iron Warriors.
Look foward to hearing your no doubt 'inventive' suggestions.
LLF

P.S. If this is in the wrong section then sorry in advance.

How would you know the PC was really AL? How do you know that the PC claiming to be the Khorne Beserker or NL Raptor isn't the actual AL PC?

How do you know that the Emperor isn't actually an Alpha Legionnaire? Or your brother.. maybe your cat.. maybe even your grandmother.

My grandmother definately is, and has been for a long time. Getting OT though.

So, now that we've thoroughly explored the mindset and drive of the AL, let's look at the others:

Night Lords: general criminal stereotypes. Figure you could go street thug or member of a crime syndicate.

Iron Warriors: Hmmm. Are we trying to blow up a structure or defend a structure? If not, I'm not sure how to rp them...

Iron Warriors could be looking for tech and/or kill Imperial Fists and/or do general chaosy stuff.

Let's say blowing up/capturing a structure.

The old ways, meaning when they were recruited from Nostroman Gangs?

Iron Warriors would play from the standpoint that they're a) paranoid b) seeking security and c) trying to deprive everyone else of their security.

What do we think? How would that rp out?

Or, if you prefer Aaron Dembski-Bowden's books to Index Astartes, some of them are totally noble and pretty much anti-hero Ultramarines. I prefer them as jumped-up hooligans.

That's just that one dude, which makes for a good story since everyone else is a thug and he's a full fledged idealist. Hijinks ensue!

There you go! There's your hook! Unlikely CSMs! The Pacifist bezerker! The Asthetic noise marine! The Hygenic Plague Marine! Run with it!

Egad, as your exclamation indicates that's plain hokey. (You sound a bit like a sitcom producer ) Fortunately (and also unfortunately), it's not true. Actually, it's kind of the reverse. Nobody in First Claw, with the exception of the Khorne worshipper, seems very thuggish to me. Index Astartes paints the Night Lords as fearmongers who are themselves ultimately cowards -- petty goons that happened to wind up with the destructive capacity of a Space Marine. So don't get me wrong, Soul Hunter is a fine book but it's at odds with the previous depiction of Night Lords and I hope that further developments prove you right -- i.e., First Claw is the exception rather than the rule.
