Is a foot slogging ig army even practical? If so, any tips for building a list...

Yes. Yes. OH GOD YES!!!!

I have a footslogging army and I love it! I do my damnedest to blob as much as I can and it does wonders for me.

My 1500 pt list is as follows. I haven't lost with it yet, mind you this is after only half a dozen games but it puts down MEQs so well.

HQ
Commissar Yarrick-attach to big blog
CCS-standard, grenade, medpack, vox

Elite
ratlings-10

Troops
Cadian platoon
PCS-standard, med, vox, heavy flamer
big blob-30 footsloggers, 3 power weapons, 2 grenades, 1 flamer
HWS-2 AC, 1 las

catachan platoon
PCS-standard, med, vox, heavy flamer
little blob- 20 footsloggers, 2 PW, 2 melta
HWS-3 las

Heavy Support
Basilisk-heavy stubber(I modeled it and pay for it cause it's cool)
LRBT-las, plasmas, BC

Fast Attack
2 armored sentinels-plasma

There are various upgrades in it but it comes out right about 1500 depending on what I keep/drop.

Tactics wise, I send the big blob straight into the center of the board and everything goes straight at them, the fools! I use FRF!SRF! as much as I can, keeping the pie a-coming from the heavy support. The HWT thin out on coming MEQ and light armor.

I reserve the catachan platoon, and hope to bring them in on turn 3. They roll on, grab the nearest OBJ and do work. The sentinels are running around the backfield doing their own thing.

Oh yeah! The ratlings infiltrate behind enemy lines and shoot at infantry till they either run, are destroyed, or there are no more targets.

Hope this helps!

Awesome, anymore advise anyone can give me? I'm working on an 1850 list for a hobby challenge.

It would certainly surprise everybody, considering that the predominant IG build ever since the last codex came out has been plasma leafblower with Valk vets to zoom in on turn five and seize objectives. Damned depressing it is.

Hmm, for another 350 pts you can add another lrbt, and fill out either of the blobs to a full 50. The remaining pts could go to more hwt or sentinels.

Sentinels are useful in my build because they either take fire away from the blobs or people ignore them and they melt a squad. Either way, it is useful.

To be honest if you are doing a blob-list you need 3 good 30 man power blobs w/ commissars. Anything less is not enough troops.

I disagree. I have been running 1 and 2 blob lists and been completely satisfied with the results.

I'd have to agree with the numbers of troops. 2 choices at 1500pts isn't enough. The foot guard list I run is a little different, as its a hybrid between foot troops and mechanized, but the bulk of it is still footsloggers.

HQ
CCS - Straken, std, 3xplasma, chimera w. ML/HF

Stormtroopers - 2xmelta

I am working to get a third blob but it would fit into my 2000 pt army, not a 1500. Like I said, the list I am running is doing me wonders at the point level, either winning or tying every game I have played with it.

Don't forget that HWS count as troops too, so I like to park them on the objective near or in my DZ and use them to support my blob attacking the middle obj.

Alright, what would be a good well rounded 1850pt list? Not anything special just well rounded where I can learn to play them and modify it as I learn better tactics.

Hmm, I would take my 1500 pt list and add some more tanks. Armor is a staple of IG, and learning to play both infantry and armor guard will put you in a nice position to polish your play style.

Your list isn't great though. I think that Synister_Intent should make his own rough list and see what comes of it. You learn far more about list building and playstyle doing that versus listening to someone who says "use my list"

Yeah, I agree with Orkboy. Buy the Codex and a Base Rule book and make a list or three.

Besides, when some people say foot guard, they mean no vehicles at all.

Been playing 40k on and off since 89.
Armies...
Orks, Eldar, Lamentors, Pre-Heresy EC, CSM EC, and IG.
